I'm confused. For a K1 visa application, which visa application form(s) does my fiancee bring to the Interview? The P3 checklist from GUZ only mentioned DS-230, but your forms page lists three:

DS-156K, Non-Immigrant Fiance(e) Visa Application: This is only needed (and should be provided) by the US Embassy issuing the Visa.

DS-156, Non-Immigrant Visa Application: Only needed at once you reach the US Embassy handling the Visa. Should also be provided by them.

DS-230, Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration: Only needed by US Embassy handling the Visa. Should be provided by them also.

Thank you.

To the interview she will bring the part II of DS-230 and everything listed in P4. Go to the GUZ website and under Immigrant Visa section you will find the P4 forms. There is an instruction sheet detailing everything you need to bring. A small donkey should be able to carry everything for her :devil: I have hired a llama for my girl... :thumbs:

The files list is here - http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/fo...and_packets.htm

Look at K-1/K-2 Appointment Packet (“Packet 4”)

as far as 'provided by them' - yak.. gah.. ok - it's available, if you click the link and download it.

USUALLY it's sent to yer lass in the P4 packet thats sent back to her. If she doesn'thave the forms in her P4 packet - then she'll need to download them.

Good Luck !

ps - time for new Evolution of Relationship letter, as well, to be presented on interview day (you write this, she gives it to the VO).

The GUZ instructions are in direct conflict with the Dept of State web site.

GUZ says to bring DS-230, an immigrant visa application. It makes no mention of DS-156 and DS-156K.

Department of state does just the opposite. It states (on http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/ty...ypes_2994.html) on its K1 page (making no mention of DS-230).

"The following is required: ...

* Two Nonimmigrant Visa Applications, Form DS-156 (A Form DS-156, prepared in duplicate.)

* One Nonimmigrant Fiancé(e) Visa Application, Form DS-156K"

So ... is K1 an Immigrant Visa or a Nonimmigrant Visa? Why do the GUZ instructions differ from those of the State Department?

I can find nothing VJ address this bizarre conflict.

Just to confuse things further is the following from DOS. It says DS-156K is required in all cases.

"Nonimmigrant Visa Applications

* DS-160 (NEW): The DS-160 Online, Nonimmigrant Visa Electronic Application, replaces the current nonimmigrant application form DS-156, and certain other related forms. The implementation of the DS-160 will be phased-in during this year, 2010. Not all U.S. Embassies and Consulates abroad will be required to use the form at the same time. Review our DS-160 webpage to access the online DS-160 form, Frequently Asked Questions, and to learn which Embassies or Consulates are requiring the form.

* DS-156: Nonimmigrant Visa Application

* DS-156E: Nonimmigrant Treaty Trader / Investor Application

* DS-156K: Nonimmigrant Fiance(e) Visa Application

* DS-157: Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application

* DS-158: Contact Information and Work History for Nonimmigrant Visa Applicant

* DS-1648 Online: New Application for A, G, or NATO Visa (Applying in the United States only)

* DS-2019: Certificate of Eligibility for Exchange Visitor Status. This form cannot be downloaded here. Contact your exchange visitor program sponsor, who is responsible for entering the DS 2019 information into SEVIS, and providing the SEVIS generated DS-2019. Important Note: The current DS-2019 form generated with an expiration date of April 30, 2008 remains valid at this time.

* DS-3035: J-1 Visa Waiver Recommendation Application Instructions

Immigrant Visa Applications

* DS-117: Application to Determine Returning Resident Status

* DS-156K: Nonimmigrant Fiance(e) Visa Application

* DS-230: Application for Immigrant Visa and Alien Registration

* DS-234: Special Immigrant Visa Biodata Form

* DS-1981: Affidavit Concerning Exemption from Immigration Requirements for a Foreign Adopted Child

* DS-3032: Choice of Address and Agent

* DSP-122: Supplemental Registration For the Diversity Immigrant Visa Program"

IMO, if you go by the intructions for the IV Unit at the Consulate in Guangzhou, you'll be fine.

The K1 is classified as an immigrant-intent visa, you do NOT use the new DS-160 online form. It is for non-immigrant visas. Refer to the GUZ website for the proper forms:

ah - where is pushbrk when ya need him?

The us citizen files the I-129F PETITION.

Once the petition is approved at USCIS, then it's sent to NVC for further checking,

The foreign fiancee files the VISA application with the Consulate IV unit , which is that DS-230 (part I only) - but ...

since it's non-immigrant, there's the DS-156 and DS-157 thingies.

The OF-160 was 'beta-tested' in Montreal last year, now it's being rolled out - maybe, later this year, maybe will be used for the K-1 visa.

K-1 is classified officially as a 'non-immigrant' visa type - but in Guangzhou - the Immigrant Visa Unit processes them. Confusing, ya?

Good Luck !

If yer still stumped, well, hei - post back..
