Drinking America

Why do Americans seem to care so much about drinking this and that?

After having eight various "reds" last night during wine tasting, my husband and his friend invited me to go to a Mexican place for dinner.

I was more of a listener several hours ago since their discourse centered on red wines and fitness programs. My husband's friend said that he bought a few more new wines for his wine rack at home. Just last month when he invited us to his place, he showed us his newly-built wine rack. He has ordered 90 bottles all at once to help fill his wine rack. The 90 bottles didn't look enough.

The Mexican man who facilitated the wine tasting even gave my husband and his friend extras that are not on the list, the ones with 1974 and 1989 labels. Still, they drank margarita and Mojito as much as I did during dinner.

Oh well, drinking is certainly not unique to Americans. However, everywhere I go, I hear people talk about wines (lines such as "I really love Syrah...") and when I went to the public library, there were some magazines on wines. They even hail a bottle as best wine of the year (so there's more to life than the best car of the year).

Who else here has spent money for a wine rack and wines or anything like those?

Conversation between my friends and I does not center around alcohol. When we want to drink we all know what we like and get it. And no I haven't spent lots of money on wine racks or anything like that. I don't even like wine although I am the only one I know who can say that.

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

:wow: This is my first time seeing you start each of your sentences with a capital letter and ending all of them with a period.

My friends don't talk about alcohol either. We never did. Wine isn't something you want to waste your money for in the Philippines.

We have Red Horse Beer.

Must be the crowd your husband likes to hang out with. There are a lot of wine drinkers who take up a serious interest in it... out here on Long Island they have wine tasting tours at all the vineyards out east and it gets pretty packed during the season.

The crowd that I grew up with has no interest in wine, they seriously couldn't care if it came in a box  However, beer is a TOTALLY different story. My husband is like this too. He (L) John Harvard's Brewhouse.

There are also people who take their food just as seriously. Just depends on the group of people you're socializing with.

Well, I love wine and I have favorites and I like to try out new wine. But I would never spend my money on a wine rack that I kept stocked with various labels just for the purpose of having. But that's just me. I also like beer, and hard cider. But again, I don't keep a stock on hand because I would rather spend my money on other things (like shoes)

Good one, Sis. My husband drinks Belgian beer occasionally. He actually grew up in Rochester but doesn't like the East Coast so much. As you know, California has a lot to offer as well in the North or in the South when it comes to wines.

Quit bashing Americans. Go back from where you came.

There is more than an acre of difference between "bashing" and "asking out of curiosity." Go back to where you got such opinion and visit here again once you feel better.

I also like other things such as shoes, clothes, food (Japanese, Italian, Thai, etc.). I do not enjoy jewelry though. Men have their own ways and I am trying to understand why some of them give so much value on lesser things including wines.

I can enjoy a good glass of wine, but it's not something that I think about having often. A glass of red wine everyday is suppose to be good for your heart...but it just seems like a lot of trouble of re-corking a bottle. Some people get into it...especially here in California. California wines used to be laughed at, but are now considered some of the best wines.

Making beer at home seems pretty popular right now among guys. I just bought all the ingredients to make homemade salsa and when I was looking some basic recipes, I found there's this whole subculture of homemade salsa freaks out there. It's kinda funny how some people take every endeavor to an extreme. I like salsa and I want to try make it from scratch, but I'm not going to start jarring it and selling it online.

Great Steve! I should encourage my husband to try something related to that. He is a good cook and maybe he can go beyond pizza and salads. We are now about to leave the house for Seafood City in Carson. Thank you for the suggestion once again. It'll be our first visit there. We went to "Bahay Natin" in Venice months ago. Not satisfactory.
