Was born out of the country (peru), lived in Edinburgh for 2 years, finished my secondary schooling in the Isle of Lewis (western Isles) did my degree in Glasgow and then moved away to London first, then the south pacific doing VSO for 2 years and then the Dominican Republic. Was in Liverpool the last few months but back in the DR on the way to the USA and getting married - woohoo!!

Now you see why it was much easier for me to move to the USA than him to Scotland - just another move for me ;-)

Anyways enough time procrastinating on VJ for now - must work on that order of service!!

Fiance lived in London for 9 years (where we met) but has been back in his hometown of Bristol since Feb 2005. Moving here in November I hope!

I love Bristol too! It's not incredibly far from where my fiance is from. If you get a chance, go down to Torquay, right on the southwestern coast. It's so beautiful down there! I love Cribbs Causeway in Bristol. I'm sure you've been there! When I lived in England, I was so excited to find a TGI Fridays...they actually had one near Birmingham too!

My husband Richard is from York. It's a beautiful city and I love that part of the country, but to be honest I prefer Cornwall/Devon. I went to "Live 8 - Africa Calling" at the Eden Project last summer (big Peter Gabriel/Real World/WOMAD fan), and we spent some time touring the Southwest. Torquay was definitely a highlight, and I hope to go back someday soon.

I spent my first three trips to the UK avoiding all things American (though I have lunch at TGIFriday's regularly at home), but I admit that after a week or two I always start to feel the Starbucks tractor beam. In a few weeks we'll be in Llandudno, Wales for a fortnight, but no fear of seeing a Friday's there I don't think!

Are there any members here from Wales? I don't think I've seen any around.

I met my fiance while studying at the University of Wales in Swansea. Almost four years ago already! I really liked Wales too...although I was in Southern Wales, which is a different world than up North. It's beautiful there...the grass is always so green, and there's always flowers, even in winter!

Can you suggest some nice places to visit in the South/West of Wales? Before John moves here for good I'd like to plan a trip in that direction, and he isn't at all familiar with South Wales considering he lives so close. We went hiking in Snowdonia a while back, and went to Caernarfon, Llandudno and Anglesey, but the bottom half of the country is still a mystery to me.

JenM, no matter where you're staying make sure you have a meal at the Empire Hotel. We ate at several "good" restaurants when we were there, and this was by far the best meal we had. It isn't cheap, but it's well worth paying for.

Hey! Sorry I haven't written back sooner! Rich is here visiting me right now! There are some really cool places to visit in South Wales. I would say depending on what you want to do, there are a few different options. Cardiff is good for shopping, eating out, and sightseeing (castle, millenium dome, etc.). I really loved the Mumbles, which is a little west of Swansea. It's a beautiful, romantic place, right on the coast. Just a little ways from the Mumbles is the Gower Peninsula, which is a National Park (I believe). I think that would be a great place to bring him! Have fun!!! I hope this helped!
