Co-sponsor has IRS issues

We are planning ahead for when we will need a co-sponsor (I, the USC, am a grad student). Our potential co-sponsor (mom's fiance) has an issue with the IRS. He owes back taxes but is under a payment plan and in good standing otherwise with the IRS. Does anyone know if this would affect his legitimacy as a co-sponsor? We're doing DCF in Peru.

Thanks for the help!

Actually there was another posting about a month ago from a person in the identical circumstances. They were the petitioner, owed back taxes and had a payment plan set-up with the IRS and were paying and in good standing. The Consulate will not even need to be aware but if by some chance the question comes up, always answer 100% truthfully. Say the co-sponsor is paying the bill off etc...

You will sail right through on this issue.

Good luck.

Actually, if there is an IRS lien, the co-sponsor will need to provide evidence of both the payment plan and that payments are current. Otherwise the Consular officer can reduce the annual income by the amount of the lien.
