They're originally from South America, so maybe they called their cousins over here and asked them about the rates. Not too many cleaners in America buying four homes from scratch now is there. Looks like Australia has a min wage of around $14/hr USD. So roughly twice what the min wage in the US is. No wonder they can afford to buy houses in the US. But those US rents would then be worth about half as much in Australia due to the cost of living.

Besides, what's the point of buying foreign houses but not being able to afford a local house? I could buy a house in Nigeria if I wanted. But why? I'd rather own a home where I'm living.

Australia actually demonstrates that investing in your country, setting a livable minimum wage, establishing reasonable work standards and limiting immigration does deliver prosperity and quality of life. Had these folks migrated here, they would be living in some socioeconomically depressed Latino area, most likely earning less than $8 an hour.
