Ooohhh, real-life Frogger! :)

I LOVED that game when I was in college! They subsequently made the graphics more advanced and it lost its charm.

here in LA I used to be scared of merging onto the freeway.. but now I have gotten used to it...

Salt Lake City's interstates are very intense, at first, for someone coming from Winnipeg. Winnipeg has no freeways, and very few merges of any kind.

Driving from Winnipeg to SLC for several years got me very used to highway merges on rural interstates, which was good: it stepped me up to the point where I could begin to get used to the urban densities of interstate traffic in SLC. which came in very handy on our honeymoon.

We went for our honeymoon in Laguna Niguel and San Diego, California. Arriving in the LA basin late at night after a 9 hour drive from SLC was a special kind of hell. The instant you cross the Nevada state line into California, the interstate traffic was as dense as downtown SLC. I think we caught the Sunday night rush from Vegas back to LA! And it only got worse from there. I am very glad I had been driving around SLC, getting used to it's freeways for several months by then. It's like an SAT logic comparison: LA driving is to SLC driving as SLC driving is to Winnipeg driving.

I don't know what it is with (at least some) LA drivers. I had to learn to display a new level of inhumanity to my fellow man just to avoid having some maniac drive up my tailpipe! It's like aggression is the only language they understand or respect. :)

T'was probably the Canadian license plates: like an enormous target painted on the back of my car

State Farm Insurance said in 2001 that this one was the most dangerous one it saw in the US... yikes. :wow:

That's a BIG standard 4-way. It doesn't seem dangerous for any particular design flaw, so much as for the sheer volume of cars that must pass through it every day. An awful lot of people have to stay in their track, pay attention, maintain situational awareness, and not try to race through in the twilight seconds of a yellow for that thing to stay sane and functional. Just one person drifting sideways in their turn or racing the yellow too late can wreck a lot of people's commutes through that beast :)

I completely agree with you. I've had to learn to drive just as agressively or they never let me into a lane or anything. Its quite horrible sometimes, but I think I will eventually get use to it.

Grew up in PA sask, "city" of 25000, so not much traffic there, or anywhere in sask. really, lol! Then resided in Victoria for nearly 10 yrs, and again not much traffic, more so that at I ran the 2 miles to work and back. Then resided in Greenwood, NS, town of 5000, def no traffic. Now live in DC ouch!! lol! But funny story back in 2003 when wife and I were visiting New York for a few days enroute Newport RI. First day in downtown New York was at an intersection trying to make a right hand turn--that had no right hand arrow, and even though i was at the front, i just could not make the turn! as the people coming at me, seemed to be a steady line and it seemed as the light turned orange, they kept coming AND the people on the left were making the turn coming across from me! Just seemed like I had NO time to make the turn, lol I think I missed a light or 2, and the lady behind me gets out of her car, knocks on my window and states "I see your from out of town , welcome to new York, but honey, you have to move!! trust me, they wont hit you, they will stop!!!" lol Sure enough I followed her advice and they did stop!! Wife has stated from that day one I became just another jerk on the road, much more aggressive and have found the love for the horn, lol

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

 I could never drive in NYC. Whenever we go into the city my husband drives while I hold on for the ride! In his world a yellow light means keep going, a red go faster, speed limits are just suggestions and yield signs simply don't exist. :)

Funny thing is when we are in the car I silently yell at the pedestrians to get out of the way yet when we are out on the street walking I'm one of those pedestrians that take over the road.

 Taking the train in is definitely easier! We always took NJ transit when our boys were younger and could ride for free but now that everyone has to pay it' s cheaper to drive in and pay for NYC parking. Since I'm spoiled and don't have to do the driving I'm okay either way :)

Actually, no. The airport is on a plain, and about 45 minutes from the city. The airport was moved outside of the actual city of Denver because people complained about the noise level- very inconvenient for those of us who use it all the time. Depending on where you are in Denver, the mountains can be a 5-10 minute drive. I lived in the southeastern burbs and I could get to the mountains in minutes.

Wait Salt Lake City has Mountains? All I ever saw there was a bunch of Dirt. Denver has the real mountains. And yes the airport doesn't count as it's pretty much in Kansas. And if that isn't enough, try Colorado Springs, the mountains are even closer there and a 14er staring right at you...
