Years earlier than expected, Sarah Palin shops a reality TV show

Alaska’s most famous daughter has been in Los Angeles since Tuesday, when with typical chutzpah, she chose Jay Leno’s sofa, at the studios of NBC, one of the world’s biggest broadcasting conglomerates, to rail against the “mainstream media.”

Today, she and her entourage descended on Hollywood, where they trawled through pre-Oscar celebrity “gifting” suites with the sort of ruthless efficiency last seen when Cherie Blair and her sons decided to tour a Melbourne shopping centre.

Topping up her supply of designer goodies wasn’t the only job on Sarah Palin’s holiday checklist, though: widespread reports, most notably in Entertainment Weekly here, suggest she was also in town to pitch a reality TV show.

Several cable channels reportedly held meetings with ex-Governor Palin and her alleged TV partner Mark Burnett, superstar British reality producer Mark Burnett, the man behind The Apprentice. Their mooted show is described as a “docudrama” about Alaska,” whatever that means.

The reported project is fascinating, though. For if Palin were indeed about to enter the swamp of reality television (a milleu that is surely predestined as her eventual home), that move would surely spell the end of her standing as a serious contender for US President in 2012.

Cable channels would no doubt jump at the chance to buy her show. But they too could be taking a gamble: if her form as Governor of Alaska is any guide, Ms Palin will film half her contracted episodes of the show, before quitting to spend more time tending to her bank balance.

More proof, at least, that Palin's aspirations are more about fame than career politics.

She's a maverick. This is just a really mavericky way of becoming President. She's putting together a coalition of voters never seen before. People who like Survivor and people who like Jerry Springer, with the Bible freaks and secessionists thrown in for good measure. With a team like that, ya just can't lose.

As yet it's only rumour ;)

I wonder what sort of reality tv show it would be set in Alaska? It sounds somewhat bleak.

She's sidling up to Mark Burnett - my guess would be that she intends to run for President via a new reality show:

Who Wants To Be The President?

That implies a competition.

No, that won't do.

Her reality show will be "Watch me become President". Or perhaps "Watch me kick socialist aѕѕ".

Depends on who the competition is - Ozzy Ozbourne (who can't win anyway), Snoop Dogg, Perez Hilton, Paris Hilton and the fat dude from Lost.

Open the premise up and next thing you know Obama convinces the producers to let him enter late... palin is too smart for that. This has to be about her and her alone. A one-woman crusade against the gay muslim socialist usurper.

The coalition of the watching? Problem with that concept is that portions of that coalition cannot be turned into the coalition of the voting - Jerry Springer fans are either too dumb to vote or legally prevented from doing so. Same probably goes for a good part of the Survior audience. That leaves the bible freaks and secessionists and that won't do the trick.
