I am so frustrated right now...we sent our AOS package a month ago to the USCIS and just recieved our package back in the mail on yesterday stating that the check amount is incorrect! Well this is not right, our check is for $1010 this is what the directions said it would cost and it also ststed that we could send our work authorization and advance parol with it at no charge. So why did they send our paperwrok back saying we didnt pay the right amount? I called the customer service and listen to them read through this STUPID script just to tell me after 10 minutes that yesthe filing fee is $1010. Dummies

Who was the check made out to?

How did your write the information on the check?

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

I did as the directions said "U.S. Department of Homeland Security". But they didnt say anything was wrong with who it was made out to, they said the "check amount is incorrect". So thats what confused me.

That is a generic answer.

How did you write out the amount on the check?

There was one case posted here where they sent it back because they stated "cents" instead of the usual "00/100".

Also - was the check signed and dated?

Also please help me verify the mailing address ofr Georgia residents. I wanted to check that as well. Thanks

Then that is perhaps why they rejected it.

If you filed for the K-1 - then Chicago would be where you need to send it.

In the banking world, you would write the check as follows:

$1,010.00 and write the amount as "One Thousand Ten and 00/100" or "One Thousand Ten Exactly"

not "$1,010 --" That is not correct, you don't show the cents correctly.

There is no banking requirement to show cents. I cash checks every month made out simply: "Four hundred dollars" with a line after the word dollars. No doubt thousands of similar checks are processed every day in the US. It may be a USCIS requiement but I can't imagine why. Truly mind boggling.

Edit:

I see that as Bobby+Umit noted it is a USCIS requirement to show cents: USCIS link

I think USCIS is trying to rob you and use poor non-residents they are looking to pockect that money for the EAD/AP and they think we can't read the form that states after 2007 the fee is waivered!

The I-130 isn't for AOS applicants adjusting from K1.
