What are the worst things you've heard someone say about your culture or country here in the States?

"I'm from Germany" reply: "Isn't that in Bavaria?"

 People always assume that P has Lederhosen. When I say he's from Baden-Württemberg their eyes just glaze over. Then I say, "near Bavaria" and they smile. They also often comment on how good his English is.

"Go back to China"

"Why are all the Asians cheap?"

"Asian house are full of cockroaches"

"Asian eat grass"

"Speak English"

"Meow Meow"

"Go back to where you came from"

"You don't belong here"

"Go home"

"Does he speak English?"

"Go back to Korea"

I had all the works. Americans are dim witted people indeed. I'm so used to those comments that it doesn't even bother me anymore.

People seem to automatically assume that Israel is a deeply religious country. Because it's a Jewish country, the assumption seems to be that everyone (or mostly everyone) is Orthodox and observant. In fact, the majority of Israelis define themselves as secular (hiloni) or traditional but not observant. Even American Jews who are non-religious in the USA sometimes seem surprised that Israel is as secular a country as it is.

Incidentally, Israel has a much higher percentage of self-declared atheists and agnostics than many Western countries, in particular the US.

And you stereotype Americans just as badly as you claim they stereotype you. Pot, kettle.

This is rather minor...but it bugs me that so many east coast people have never heard of Washington state.

"Oh you're from Washington? Do you actually live in the District?"

"No, I'm from Washington state."

"What?"

"Washington state...on the west coast."

"Oh..."

"Seattle! I'm from Seattle."

"Oh! Okay. Great coffee."

Oh. Yes.

And another view, when I tell people I'm originally from New Orleans they make many stereotypical assumptions as well.

It doesn't help that you spent Superbowl week going "Who Dat" on VJ threads :P (You sort of earn the stereotype when you do that, right?)

Congrats on the Saints win, again, btw.

Sometimes it's so catchy that you want to stereotype. These type of people say 1000000 of things negative about you, and when you say 1 thing back...you get 10000000000000000000000000000000000000 more things bad say about you. It's almost like a catch 22 that has been super charged.

absolutely the same here! Also the question 'How come your English is so good?' Or 'Where's your funny German accent?'

I generally don't like people saying that someone is a bad person just because of their culture etc. ('Sauerkraut? Ewww you're gross!').

ahh and Washington State... geez yeah! I love Washington and it makes me wonder why no one ever thinks of the state first rather than DC...?
