My K1 visa has been approved in the US and sent to the embassy in Bogota, Colombia. I called their office yesterday and they said that we can fax in the documents to request an interview date. I went to their website and found the visa packages. They have a K Visa package under the Immigrant Visas, even though it is a Nonimmigrant Visa. They also have different instructions about K visas under their Nonimmigrant section. A typical US government cluster you-know-what.

So the K visa package instructions say that I should submit a DS-2100 (request for interview) and a DS-230 Part I (visa application). The K visa appointment package says that I should submit the DS-156 and the DS-156K, if you read it literally. I think they mean for K1 visas to only submit the DS-156K. But theNonimmigrant Visa section says all nonimmigrant visa applicants must use the online application form DS-160.

Does anyone have recent experience filing a K1 in Bogota or some other embassy? Which visa application(s) should I submit? DS-156, DS-156K, DS-160, or DS-230.

These things can vary somewhat between consulates, but for a K-1 for Vancouver, Canada, I had to do a DS-230 (but only part 1), a DS-156, and a DS-156K. In some consulates the DS-160 is replacing the DS-156. I don't know if Columbia is one of those. Check any material they have sent you (if anything, yet) and check their website. Email or call them if it's doable. They'll give you the most authoritative answer.

DON'T PANIC

Sadly, I think you are correct. Why use 1 form when 3 can do the job? After looking at this some more I think they want me to fax in the DS-230s to request the interview appointment. Then I think they want one DS-156 and two DS-156K for each person at the interview.

Thanks

You only need to fax them forms DS-2100 and Part I of the DS-230 signed. Also, send them a copy of the biographical page of your passport so they know who the forms are for and also write your case number on it just in case they lose it. You can either fax them these forms or e-mail them.

That's was exactly what I did and send a cover letter specifying the documents sent. I sent by email and two days after I got confirmation from them, it wasn´t necessary to send them by fax or mail
