Peeps with experience on the rail system. I've been going nuts trying to figure out which option is best for us.

Here are the facts:

30 year old traveling with a 61 year old (if we buy a pass it will be a saver pass).

We had planned doing the following routes by train:

Paris - Tours

Tours - Brussels

Brussels - Bruges

Bruges - Brussels

Brussels - Amsterdam

So I'd choose either a 4 day pass (since we'll go in and out of Bruges on the same day) or just buy point by point tickets.

Where I'm going crazy trying to figure out are the reservations. They can make one option outweigh the other and the whole idea of not being able to miss any train is driving me nuts.

Anybody have tips on understanding the rail system and the options?

Sorry, I wish I could help but I can't remember that much about it. I know I mostly just bought tickets when I needed them - and as a student I did the Interrail thing, now that was a magic deal I wonder if they still do it...

You need to be a resident to travel with an interrail pass. It does cost A LOT less.

Don't you have to be a student any more? Yeah, it was a sweet deal. When I did it, I think it was something like 100 GDP for a months travel. I went from the UK, to the South of France, then back up through France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Denmark, Sweden(very briefly) to Norway and back. Amazing trip on the train, a really great way to get about.

There's a student pass, a resident pass, an adult pass, and group passes.
