Why do crackpot gun nuts want to take a gun everywhere they go?

I'd like to know from all the anti-gun people why it isn't ok to defend yourself with a firearm.

If the criminals are going to use it to kill me, why can't I use one to defend myself?

I wouldn't carry a firearm to harm others who weren't bothering me(unlike criminals).

So why can't it be used as self-defence for law-abiding citizens?

I guess I don't understand why the pro-gun people want to make it legal to carry a gun everywhere you go. Given the relatively high crime rates in this country, I can't help but think that the attitude that carrying a gun should be a normal sight not to be questioned, is at least partly to blame.

Va Tech indeed - the US has over a dozen of those types of incidents a year. I can count on the fingers of one hand how many times such an event has happened in the UK.

I've never felt in fear for my safety, either here or in the UK. I've never been the victim of a crime, I don't see the need for me to carry a gun; and I certainly don't see the need for people to insist on carrying one everywhere they go.

I grew up in a small town in Arizona where it wasn't uncommon to see someone with holstered gun on their side inside a shop or feed store. I think once people get used to it, the uneasiness will subside. It's the ones that conceal a weapon illegally, who you aren't noticing, that you should be most concerned about. I'm not sure though if it will make public areas safer though as it's people's temperaments that worry me the most.

I think the bigger issue for me is of proliferation - that the folks who insist on carrying guns tend to look at incidents like Virginia Tech, Columbine, Uncle Joe shooting his pregnant wife in the dark and not question that the wide availability of these weapons has something to do with why these events take place.

I'm not "worried" really about legal gun owners, just this mistaken attitude that guns make things safer. You don't have to look very hard at the crime rates in this country to see that this isn't really the case.

Well, the Second amendment gives us the right to bear arms. Too bad we could not clone the writers.

I took an oath at Parris Island in 1987 to "protect our country, all enemies foreign and domestic." (they forgot to mention liberals)

I carry mine concealed. Won't the little criminal p*ss his pants when is being taken down.

If you don't like our freedoms, leave and go to a socialist country. Oh, you won't because you like your freedoms in the US too much. Question, did you ever fight for them?

I have spent extensive time in socialist countries. The goverments are not afraid of their people because the people are unarmed. The people are at the mercy of the goverment. Live like that for a while and see how you like it. Not the way my country is going to be.

Now, if your daughter was working somewhere and some "ne'er do wells" came in and tried to physically harm her, her co-workers, or just the general public. Should I just sit there and sip my coffee or should I give someone an "acute case of lead poisioning." I will honer your wishes and keep my weapon in its holster. Let me know where to send the condolences for your loved one.

You want to ban guns. Well I don't want to ban granola, Birkenstocks, hybrid cars, body piercings, ridiculous tattoos. I let you live the way you want to live. Why don't you let people live the way they want? I forgot, you know what is better for me than I do. You are so unhappy with your existence that you want to force other people down to your level of misery. Not going to happen.

VA Tech students would still be alive if some students had been carrying. The reason a cowardly shooter is able to get away with what he does is he knows there will not be any immediate retribution. Liberty University was pushing for their students to get concealed carry permits.

As for crime. Look at Australia. A few years ago they did their gun ban. Violent crimes went up over 50%. No #######. Do your own google search.

Have you personally every had to take a life. It is not pleasant. It is what I was trained to do. I did not relish the times I had to do it. I will do it again if necessary. All of the people carrying are not out there to take a life, just preserve. If they were carrying to do a wild west shoot out I am sure the laws would be changed. No proof whatsoever of an increase of crime carrying out in the open or concealed. Actually the opposite. Just facts.

Yeah, I'm skeptical it will make people less likely to be violent, but it could help businesses by deterring would-be robbers. I think it's worth seeing it fleshed out and then we'll all have a more clearer idea of any cause and effect.
