Thanks folks! I'm back "home" now...at what has been my temporary home for the past three months with my parents. When I came into my room, they had strung red, white and blue crepe ribbons across the ceiling and taped a bunch of red, white and blue balloons up there too with all sorts of things like "bon voyage!" and "Anna here I come!" etc. It was quite adorable, I must admit. :)

I've been awake for over twenty hours now, and only got about five hours of sleep last night, so I don't have it in me to write a review tonight. It will be one of the first things I do tomorrow though, I promise!

Thanks again guys. You've all been a huge help!

Oh, and just a little nugget before my actual review: I talked up Visa Journey to the Consular Officer that interviewed me. He agreed that it's great that there's a community like this, so long as the information is all correct...to which he added, "Which it must be, if your case is any indication." Pretty cool, eh?

congrats

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

That is really nice of your parents - I don't know why guys are so stand offish with their parents, they aren't going to trap you and make you stay home forever lol

Congratulations on getting your visa. Where is the review, less typy typy more review!

Oh and I spotted this:

Honestly, the interview is not at all nerve-wracking provided you're prepared. If you're calm and confident, you'll find the consular officer to be more chit-chatty than stern. At least in my case...and from what I've read from most others.

No one will ever listen to you on this one Wyatt - so you may as well give up that line right now

That is so sweet of your parents :D ! Looking forward to reading your full review - that was certainly a long day and you went from one end of the country to the other as well.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Heh...review posted. That took me about two hours to write. :P

Yes, it was indeed sweet of my parents...although when I woke up early this morning and looked at the ceiling in the very faint light, it looked like a giant spider spanning my whole ceiling. The dome light was the abdomen, one of the balloons was its head, and the crepe ribbons were its legs. Yes, I have an overactive imagination. ;)

As for the interview not being nerve-wracking, I actually knew this would be the case for a long time -- I was never nervous about the actual review...only anxious to know EXACTLY what documents they were going to ask for, given that I did Electronic Processing. As soon as I read Sdhiman's review I was completely calm and confident that I had all my bases covered. It's a fairly casual atmosphere in the interview booth. The CO in my case was partially businesslike, but also had a temperament that would likely help put more nervous people at ease.

Congrats!

Why on earth does everyone want/go for poutine, when they could go to Schwartz's?!?!:P

Here here!

You can get poutine in a lot of places in Canada, but ya gotta love a good Schwartz's smoked meat sandwich. So good.
