Police Records

Certificates of Good Conduct (Atestados de Bons Antecedentes) related to possible violations of state law are available to persons 18 years of age and older from the Secretaria de Seguranca Publica in each of Brazil's states. Atestados related to possible violations of federal law are available to persons 18 years of age and older from any station (Delegacia) of the National Police (Policia Federal). Criminal records in Brazil are expunged five years after any sentence has been served.

Because each state maintains a separate database of violations of state law, a prospective immigrant must obtain a separate record from the Secretaria de Seguranca Publica of each state in which he or she has resided within the past five years. Additionally, a prospective immigrant must obtain a record from the Policia Federal, since state police records do not include violations of federal law.

For addresses or telephone numbers of Secretarias de Seguranca Publica and Delegacias de Policia Federal an applicant may contact the immigrant visa unit of the U.S. Consulate General in Rio de Janeiro or access the consulate’s website at: www.embaixadaamericana.org.br. Federal Certificates are also available through the internet as are some State police certificates. If the applicant is residing outside Brazil, it is highly unlikely that he/she will get the Police certificate (only if he/she has someone with a power of attorney to apply on his/her behalf and if the applicant’s Brazilian ID card was issued by the specific state from which the certificate is being requested).

You can request the federal police certificate online here. I believe it's immediately available, but it's been over 6 months since we applied for the tourist visa and I've since forgotten.

The state certificates are also available online, but again, I don't know 100% if it's available immediately. This is the Consulate's list of where to go.

Thanks for your help.

I am asking specifically the certificate from Rio because I´ve lived there for some years and now I am residing in Sao Paulo..I don´t think I can get this certificate online..thats my concern about having to fly to Rio and get it done in one day.

IFP - (21) 2399-3903

Monday through Friday - 11 am to 4 pm

To require your Certidão de Antecedentes Criminais you'll need:

- Original and copy of your RG (can't be CPF as they want a document with your picture in it)

- Original and copy of your Birth Certificate

It takes 1 or 2 weeks to be ready and I'm pretty sure you must go pick it up in person.

I think mine took around 10 days, back in 2006.

If you haven't done that in your city Rio's Federal Police Certificate takes around 15 days to be ready, and you also must go in person to order and pick it up.

Valeu!!!

Questions

1-Why the American Embassy informes that IFP is located at Rua Frei Caneca?

2- The address you gave me stands for ex residents of Rio, right (Secret de Polícia )?

-because my certificate for the Policia Federal I am going to request in SP where I live.

I appreciate your help..

Best regards

1 - There are several IFP offices in Rio, back then I went to the one the Embassy indicated and was told they didn't do that service there and directed me to the address I gave you as the only place that would give the Certidão. That was in 2006. You can always call and verify if that's still the same.

2 - The IFP address and Certidão is for Rio State only. So yes, you can request the federal one in SP since you live there and can use the Poupatempo site, which unfortunately is not available in Rio.
