questions about AOS?

Hello,

I am seeking the answers of a few questions as I prepare my Adjustment of status application package.

1. When asked for a copy of a passport, should it be copied in full with blank pages or just the pages which contain stamps? also does it need to be a color copy?

2. I received a checklist for my AOS package from my US consulate which said to send my I-120 (F-1 student visa) from when I went on a university exchange in the US. this was in January 2008. Should I still send it even though I've graduated since then?

3. I am applying concurrently my I-130,I-485 and I-765. I have read the checklist which is featured on this site. Do I need to include same documents, such as my marriage certificate, passports, etc in both my I-130 packs and my I-485 packs? Will it be read my different departments and need to be separated? Or can I omit them and just apply with everything in a giant package.

Thanks so much in advance, everyone is always so helpful here!!

Natalie

** moving from "Adjustment of Status (Green Card) from Family Based Visas" to "Adjustment of Status from Work, Student, & Tourist Visas" as you are adjusting from a student visa and the prior forum is for K1, K2, K3 & K4**

I copied every single page, even the blank ones. I just did black and white, but it never occurred to me to do it in color... Hmm.

2. I received a checklist for my AOS package from my US consulate which said to send my I-120 (F-1 student visa) from when I went on a university exchange in the US. this was in January 2008. Should I still send it even though I've graduated since then?

Can't help here, I have no idea. I would say send everything, just to be sure, but others on here will know better than me.

Just assemble them with the thought in mind that they're separate packages, i.e. put a marriage cert, etc. in EACH pack. I don't think they're all processed by the same person (people?) so different packs go different places and each one needs the specifically requested info.

Thanks so much for the reply!

I will copy all pages of the passport.

As far as my marriage certificate goes.

Is it acceptable to photocopy your certified marraige certificate (the one with the actual stamp from the county on the back). Or do I need to order another one directly from the county office?

thanks!

We sent a certified copy with our AOS, but we had purchased several extras and they were quite cheap. I'm pretty sure you don't have to.

Double and triple check the instructions on the forms themselves. They are the ultimate authority here. Unless the form instructions specifically request a "certified copy", and I'm virtually certain they don't, normal personal photocopies are fine. Make sure you bring an original certified copy to the interview, though, as they will want to see it then.

That's their general rule - photocopies are fine, but make sure you can present originals at any interview that occurs.

I only send the passport (the one with the picture, etc) and the visa page of the passport. Why would they need all those blank pages? I didn't send I-20, but now that you mentioned it I will probably bring it to the interview. And yes you need the supporting documents for both packages, so make extra copies.

My understanding is that if you are sending a photocopy of the passport as a proof of citizenship for the petitioner or beneficiary* (i.e. for the I-129F) then they want to see every last page, [i guess] to prove that you own the entire legitimate passport document. OTOH, if you are sending the passport to prove your immigration status, you need only copy the bio page and any page with stamps, visas, or an I-94.

*The qualification of petitioner or beneficiary matters, because I know that for the proof of citizenship of an I-864 joint sponsor, they will accept a photocopy of just the bio page from the passport. <Shrug>

Re the passport, I just sent in my photo/main bio page, and that was fine. In NH the copies you get are certified copies already, so we just got a few of them from the town clerk and gave them one. I think USCIS would rather an original certified copy, rather than a copy of a copy.

The only reason why I ask is that our county office in Portland, OR is charging 17.00 per copy!! with additional copies of 7.00. After we got married we bought only one and figured we could copy it. It seems ridiculous to ask that much for a piece of paper with a stamp on it.
