I'm new to the forum, I've been reading the procedures on the k-1 visa. I'm an American citizen, and my fiancee is in Colombia, ive read the whole process, but one thing that knocks me off is, im in a part time job, not making that much, really, when i file the I-134 affidavit of support, should i already get a joint sponsor without the consulate in Bogota even asking me for it?? i fear that the consulate could deny the visa for my fiancee for that matter, also before sending in the I-129 F package, what documents should i get notarized? and this letter of intent the the USCIS wants, my fiancee doesn't speak English, can i do the letter for her, email it to her, have her sign it and mail it back to me, would there be a problem if i do that?? if im posting in the wrong part, please let me know, im really eager to know if someone can answer these 3 simple questions, i would gladly appreciate it

Hi and welcome to VJ :)

I can answer your second and third question.

None of the documents/photocopies in your I-129F Petition require Notarization.

You are fine to email her the letter of intent, just make sure she posts the printout with her original signature on it. Maybe get her to do a few copies with original signatures. It's wise to make an extra copy or 2 of your I-129F Petition, just in case :).

I'll answer your first question. Yes, if you don't make enough money, then you HAVE to have a co-sponsor. Simple as that. No alternative. You could get another part-time job if you don't want to get a co-sponsor, and the two jobs combined might take you over the poverty line. Here are the poverty guidelines. You won't need the affidavit of support until the interview stage.

Yes, don't make the consulate think. You know the quidelines, your income doesn't meet them, you know what to do. Do it.

yes, you'll need a joint sponsor, if you have a joint sponsor to comply with the limits you should have no problem. See the poverty guidelines: I-864P

good luck!
