I worked all weekend long translating my fiance's divorce certificate and assembling the I-129f packet. I had high hopes of meeting my goal of sending it of March 1st. Well when I pulled out the passport pictures she sent me I literally groaned out loud. The pictures were great for passports--Mexico Passports! Apparently the size requirements are smaller than the U.S. Well now I have to wait for a proper picture as I look at this perfectly assembled packet. Oh well just thought Id share my misery with someone out there. Oh and photoshop did cross my mind but Id rather wait a few days than jeopordize everything with fraud.

I didn't think for the I-129 packet it had to be a specific size photo. Everything I have read said it had to be a "passport type" photo. I know for the actual interview a 2x2 photo has to be presented. Maybe I am wrong, but I hope not as I have mailed mine out today.

I had the same last minute problem with the difference in photo sizes. I used your idea, played with photoshop and got them to look like 2" x 2". I enclosed these in an envelope along with the small photos as well. They were accepted by NVC.

You can enlarge them in Photoshop and then have them printed on regular photo paper at Walmart or anywhere else that prints digital photos and no one would ever know they were not the right size to begin with. Give it a shot. What do you have to lose? She has to supply new passport photos for the interview and medical exam anyway that are 30 days or less old so make sure she does them right next time.

The K1 guide on VJ refers to these photo specifications:

Hmmm well like I said earlier I had photoshop going and it was a good print if I do say so myself hehe. But then I started thinking about the possibilities of fraud and banishment or lashes at the stake for daring to submit an altered photo. I mean if i could get away with this why couldnt someone else photoshop photos to show having met their fiance? I dont know I guess I dont have the nerves of steel to pull a fast one on the Government. Well Im expecting her updated photo so a couple days of more waiting.

Darren+Heather--I hope the photo you sent works out for you but I did read that they have to be U.S passport size for the petition. The poster above me posted the link I got the info from. Like I said hope it works out for you

The same thing happened to me! But I used a passport program that resized the picture basically to standard format and submitted that and that seemed to be acceptable. It looked completely the same just the size was different.

Yep got it figured out. She took another pic with digital camera in front of white background emailed it to me a while ago then I used a free online passport photo template to size and crop it then Bam! got me six U.S. reg passport pics. My printer only has black ink so I sent it off to walgreens and for 19 cents I got my packet together. Im going to go over it Again tomorrow and then its off to the Vermont Service Center.

It's not fraud if you re-size them, it's fraud if you change something ON the picture, change colors for example. It should be 2*2

Me and my fiance also wanted to send our packet on march 1st, but we had a lot to do and it's harder than it seems, but taking your sweet time is a lot better than being in a rush and overlooking important things. Take your time, cause if you do something wrong, it'll take you so long to correct it!

Goodluck.

I have been in that same positon as well. I forgot to get passport photos from my wife while in Uganda. Of course, getting them will be a major delay due to her having to recieve monies from me to sen dthem to me via DHL. I finally recieve them and yes, they were significantly smaller than they are supposed to be. I have to have them resent to me som in all it set me back a month. Anyhow, good luck on your endeavor and am currently awaiting a response for biometrics!

It's not fraud unless it's not a picture of your fiance. My husband scanned his and e-mailed them to me from Pakistan and I printed his out on my computer. They were accepted and we had no problems.

oops.....

HOWEVER, please check the requirements for document translation and certification of the translated document. I know that some consulates require they be certified.

You may want to check the consulate information page on trave.state.gov

Great input guys. Luckily got a pic emailed to me and used a free passport photo software to crop it and get it all right. I guess you guys are right about exagerrating the fraud issue but I was just chicken. The final pics came out great and Im going to go over the entire packet and check everything over. I havnt looked at it for today and maybe not even tomorrow so that I can go over it entirely with "fresh" eyes and mind. Better do it right and not rush it and have everything delayed. Good luck to everyone here

Now I am worried. Great. The pic I sent for Darren was not 2x2, but met all other specifications. I suppose only time will tell. If we get a RFE because of a photo then I will be gutted.
