I just had my interview (I am the USC, my husband is adjusting his status). Anyway, the officer did not seem very happy (seriously, not even one smile) and she gave us a paper with "further review" checked. I am at work so I can't type out the whole story at the moment, but the end result was not exactly an approval?

Is that a big deal, or not?

Hi Emmaline, sometimes they are just not nice like that and also they might not have the authority to apporve riht away so the case goes to a supervisor. I think you will get an email in the next 2-3 days, I've seen other cases here that looks like yours and they were all approved! Let us know more details when you have time :)

Grumpy officer aside, I think in many USCIS offices staff are not allowed to immediately approve an application, but need to have their recommendation reviewed by their supervisor. Exact same thing happened to us in the NYC office: we also got the "further review" checkbox and were told we'd hear back in 60 days, even though the officer said he would recommend us for approval. I contacted other NYC AOS'ers about this and apparently it's common practice here. It may also be the case in other offices. I hope you hear back soon, because we've already been waiting for 3 weeks for the magical "approval / card production" e-mail, but didn't get anything so far. The commenter above got the e-mail on the day of the interview, while in NYC it apparently takes about a month. I'd expect that you will hear back within a couple of weeks. Good luck and congrats on being done with the interview!

Don't worry - they are really not that great about updating. It took a good 5 days for them to send me the first e-mail... so be patient and enjoy!

I'm keeping a blog detailing this journey!

Thanks otta :) Of course when I got to a computer I immediately googled to see if we "failed" and it looks like the further review thing happens to a lot of people so I feel better.

I was worried because I brought pictures of our civil marriage ceremony, and the officer seemed to want more, like pics of our reception. We didn't have one! Our REAL wedding and reception will be later this summer. I didn't make a big deal of the civil ceremony AT ALL because I do not consider that my real wedding. I didn't tell my friends or anyone, just invited my parents to be the witnesses. I was worried that because I did not make a scrapbook out of glitter and hearts that somehow that proved we do not really "love" each other... honestly though HELLO? We've been working hard trying to build a life together financially and plan our "real" wedding, neither of us has time for scrapbooking.

The officer took the I-94, our marriage certificate, my husband's birth certificate, some pictures of our civil ceremony, and our bank account papers. She didn't take the EAD or the AP so at least we still have those. She didn't recommend us for approval, nor did she say BOO YOU FAIL so now I guess we just wait!
