Well my case has been delayed because the biometrics didn't "take" the first time. We received notification that the FBI could not process my husband's fingerprints and that he will have to redo biometrics in another 3 weeks. From browsing around VJ it seems to be an unlucky but common experience :\

To say that I'm frustrated is an understatement, especially when it seemed that everyone's case was moving along at a good pace... when I saw the USCIS envelope in the mail I was SO hopeful it would be a transfer notice or something that would move the case forward, not put it on pause!!

Anyway my fiance is going to try to "walk in" this week and do the biometrics again because I really don't think we should be punished for the fact that they took the fingerprints wrong. What a waste of time. I am really hoping he will have his EAD soon so we can start building a life instead of STILL living in this effing limbo =(

Hey all,

We sent AOS/EAD/AP applications in March and got the 3 NOAs on March 25th. We received biometrics appointment for the EAD, but we haven't yet received a separate biometrics appointment for AOS.

Are we supposed to do 2 biometrics appointments (1 for AOS; 1 for EAD)? Have other March filers done separate biometrics for both?

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

Some of the January and February filers ended up with two biometrics appointment. Carry in the appointment letter plus all of the NOA1s and see if that helps you avoid a second trip in. :)

Approaching 30 days since NOA date and no biometrics letter yet...last update on my cases is still 04/07- nobody has looked at them for 3 weeks. Really wondering why it's moving so slow I know it's TPS and the volcano issue but it seems to still be moving fast for most March filers

It took us quite awhile to get the biometrics letter as you can see from my timeline. There have been other people that waited a full 6 weeks. Once you hit 30 days from NOA1 the customer service at the main line MIGHT put in an SR for you. Don't worry, they are generally being slow right now and it isn't an indicator that there's a problem with your case. In fact, we got our biometrics letter generated AFTER our case was transferred to CSC.

I just checked on my case status on the USCIS webpage and it states that on April 24, 2010 my Ead has been approved and Card production has been ordered. I am signed up fr email ans mobil alerts but never received a message to either. Also my last touch online was on March 19, 2010 and I got a letter to redo my biometrics again. I did that on April, 12 2010 and no touches or anything. So just hang in there. Uscis is sometimes not very fast. Good luck to all

Hey guys!

I was reading news from everyone on this topic... -- good to hear that many cases are moving along!! ;) -- and I noticed that many of you said you were eager for your case to be "transferred" to "CSC". I was wondering when and why cases have to be transferred. Can anyone tell me what that means and if that concerns my case (filed for AOS from J-1 visa from inside the US).

Also, I read here and there that one could expect the EAD about a month after the biometrics appointment. Do you guys think that time frame sounds right?

I'm asking because the USCIS website gives a 3 months time frame. I guess they wanna give a long time frame to avoid too high expectations from applicants, though.

Also, what exactly do you mean when you say "touch"? You mean that on your case status, the date when one of your application was "last updated" has changed? I noticed that some of my applications had been updated but suprisingly, I haven't received any e-mail/text that notified me, and their status hasn't changed. (For example, my AOS application is still on the "Acceptance" button, while all the others are on "review".)

Thanks a lot everyone in advance for taking the time to explain those few terms and processes to me! :)

Love y'all.

- Anaïs.

Our Timeline:

08/01/2009: Both Marc and I arrived in Seattle, WA. (Anaïs on a J-1 Visa until March 20th, 2010.)

08/13/2009: We arrived in Berkeley, CA and moved in our current apartment.

09/25/2009: After 5 years together, we get married!

02/07/2010: Marc gets a big promotion and his salary is doubled: this is too big of a career opportunity for him: we decide to stay in the US.

02/08/2010: We start to work on getting a AOS application together.

03/07/2010: We send the application via USPS to the Chicago Lockbox.

03/10/2010: Application delivered in Chicago, 1:50 pm.

03/17/2010: Series of USCIS notification of acceptance e-mails received.

03/18/2010: Checks cashed this morning.

03/22/2010: All 4 NOA-1 received!

04/12/2010: Biometrics appointment at 12.00 at the Oakland, CA support center today. Everything went smoothly.

04/30/2010: Interview letter received in the mail! We had had no news and no touch since April 13th so the letter was unexpected!

05/14/2010: AOS and I-130 touched.

05/17/2010: AOS, I-130, I-131, and I-765 touched.

05/17/2010: Two confirmation e-mails received: AP and EAP approved!

06/01/2010: EAD card received today in the mail!

06/02/2010: AOS interview in San Francisco.

06/04/2010: AOS confirmation e-mail received!! Card production ordered!

I am not exactly sure when and why USCIS picks cases to be sent of to California, nor if there are certain types of AOS that will not be picked to be sent to CSC. From what I can see, cases are sent off in batches (i was transferred on April 1, and so were about 5 or 6 others). I am just speculating, but maybe they look at your previous visa files (like for instance, my K1 visa file) and judge from that whether your case will be simple to complete. When you are sent to CSC, it means that they will try and adjudicate your AOS without calling you in for an interview. This can be great if your local office takes a long time to processing AOS cases at interview, because CSC is historically quicker. But, in the last month or so, CSC seems to have slowed down a little. It's not anything to be concerned about it you do or don't get transferred.

Also, I read here and there that one could expect the EAD about a month after the biometrics appointment. Do you guys think that time frame sounds right?

I'm asking because the USCIS website gives a 3 months time frame. I guess they wanna give a long time frame to avoid too high expectations from applicants, though.

I am not holding my breath to get it within a month of my biometrics. I am coming up on nearly a month since mine were taken, and my EAD case hasn't been touched for nearly a month. If you look up on the timelines section, it has a predictor for when you EAD may be adjudicated. In my experience, those predictors are fairly accurate.

A touch essentially means that the barcode on your casefile has been scanned and that scan has been entered into the system. It can mean that your case was moved between different locations, it can mean that your case has been taken off the shelf and is sitting on a desk ready to be looked at, it can mean that information has been added to your file (like when you get a touch after biometrics are done). Your case can be touched but the status not update. So, when it's just a touch, I am guessing they don't send you an update. I have not been updated every time I've gotten a touch, only when my case arrived at CSC. Also, remember that the online tracking is not always accurate. For example, when my K1 petition was approved, the case status never moved off "Review." We didn't know we got our NOA2 until the piece of paper showed up in the mail!

Thanks a lot everyone in advance for taking the time to explain those few terms and processes to me! :)

Love y'all.

- Anaïs.

Hi Everyone,

We finished our biometrics (early walkin) on Apr 14 and received a touch on the application

the next day. We also moved our residence from Indiana to Illinois and filled out the AR-11 online. We received

confirmation letters from USCIS that they received our address change application for all our applications

(I-130, I-485, I-765, I-131). We received these notifications at our new address in Illinois.

Do we need to do anything else with respect to the address change process?

and

Will the entire AOS or EAD process be delayed due to an address change?

Thanks

The three month timeframe shown on the USCIS website I believe is from filing, not biometrics.
