I have a Ukrainian friend who is marrying an Australian. She used to live in the United States, and needs police records from two different cities. Anyone know the best/fastest way for her to go about doing this? Her interview is coming up in about 3 weeks (they just applied for the Australian equivalent of K1 about 2 weeks ago, nice timeline huh? :)) so she needs them pretty quickly, although I'm pretty sure if she doesn't have them by the time of the interview they'll just hold off a decision until they get them. OTOH, I know #### all about Australian immigration procedures, so it would be nice if she could get those records asap. :) Thanks in advance for anyone that can help.

I know for US immigration, many times an applicant is directed to contact the consulate of the country that they need the report from... I do not know if this is something our US consulates do on behalf of the citizens in the country that they are in....

YMMV

I have no idea what they require for a "police check" but if she goes to any local police department she can get a printout of her record. They'll simply run her DL or something like that and voila!

Have her ask for a LEADS/NCIC printout.

If she's not here she'll probably need someone with a power of attorney to request it.

Yeah, that's the problem, she's not in the US.

Is there anyone she knows who can do a POA for her? Or, how about hiring an attorney to get it done?

Actually... she may be able to contact the clerk of courts or sheriff's office or some other public office of the place she last lived and if she can find a bored enough county employee, they'd probably fax it to her on the spot.
