Greetings, guys!

Question to everybody: did anybody had an experience of moving to US with rodent as a home pet? Can you, please, share it with me? My fiancee lives in Russia and has chinchilla as a home pet. Arranging the procedure of moving this chinchilla over to the US turn out to be real pain in the neck. The worse part is that arranging all necessary papers both in Russia and in US is not so difficult. However, I didn't find so far a single airline company, which would agree to tolerate chinchilla on the board, or move it in the baggage, or provide me with any kind of clear instructions. Nobody wants to deal with rodent. So, if anybody knows anything - please, share. We have just one month time left before interview and my fiancee is very upset already, since she is very attached to her home pet.

Thank a lot in advance to anybody, who will respond with any kind of valuable information. This forum is my last hope to find out anything on the topic already.

I remember seeing chinchillas at the pet store in Moscow. A chinchilla should travel easier than a dog, but I understand they do not like noise and most airlines will not allow them as carry on.

One source of info might be the vet office at SVO in Moscow. Have your fiance call and talk with them.

Looks like Delta should allow them as checked baggage as they list on their website "guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters are accepted as checked baggage".

Fish and Wildlife are the people that control animal movement into and out of the US. Many animals have to undergo a length stay at the owners expense to certify that they are healthy. This will probably cost over $1000

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Yes, most airlines doesn't allow them not only in the cabin, but at the baggage too. I hoped, Turkish Airlines would (they have by far cheapest tickets), but - no. I will call Delta, see what come out of it.

Thanks!

Ask yer lass to take many photos of the chinchilla, send to you via email.

THEN YOU get big posters of the chinchilla photos, go around to the pet stores in USA, looking for the clone or twin .

There are also chinchilla farms in the USA (usually raised for the pelt, though - not as indoor pet).

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !
