hi, i need help...i came to Canada from Africa using my baptism certificate, now what do i use for the birth certificate??? i am Canadian citizen, does it matter really?? if anyone knows...i would appreciate your help...

You traveled to Africa with a Baptism certificate and without a passport? And what is your need for a birth certificate? Are you filing for a Visa? Which type? Did you get an RFE? Need more info.

no when i moved to canada i used my baptism certifcate b/c i didnt have my birth certificate. now we filed for k-1, and not sure if i can use that. its not the original that i got when i was born. I was about 12 when we moved to canada, when they asked for it we went and got it from my church, it has everything in eglish with my parents name, the stamp from my church as well as my pic. which is like when i was 12. Do you think that might cause a problem???..please i really need help

If you have a passport, you can use a complete photocopy of that for the K1 application, but it sounds like you are not the petitioner. Your ID won't come into question (as far as proving it) until you go to the Canadian embassy for interview. You may want to check on the Canadian forum here and see what specific requirements are.

I don't know at what stage, if any, in the K1 process you will need a copy of your birth certificate. IF you do need it - check out the Reciprocity by Country page below, chose the country/area where you are from, it will tell you exactly what you need to obtain in terms of proof of registration of birth and where you get it from:

maybe i am not explaning it right :blush: oh, we just got no2....we are doing k1, so it says i can use my batism if its the original for my interview in montreal. The problem is the one that i have, i just got it when i came to canada which i was about 12. so its not really the original, the one you get when you get batized...so my question is what can i use, i do have my canadian passport...but it says my birth certificate is needed for my interview. Do you know if there is a webiste where i can aquire more info, or should i call someone in montreal. i am just lost...........pls help :crying:
