Hi All,

I will renew my Brazilian passport. I would like to renew with my married last name but I won't (too much burocracy) so I will renew it with my maiden last name.

If I travel to another country, when I come back will I have my passport with my maiden last name and my Green Card with my married name. Will a have problems in Customs???

Thanks,

Technically, you shouldn't have any problem, but if you rather keep your name carry with documents to proof new identity [new name] in case of any complications.

I think you will have a lot more bureaucracy to take care at the POE when you are returning from your trip due to difference in names specially if your passport is fairly new and your GC has been in effect for some time [but that's me thinking at loud] Perhaps updating your passport may be the less complicated way for you rather than having possible issues at the immigration port.

Side Note:

My wife's passport is not expiring until 2013, but since we are traveling out of the country we are amending and updating her name. In order to do that, we are required to register our marriage [one page application with a $20 fee], we will get back the certification in a week. Then, she will be able to amend her passport with her new name to avoid any possible inconveniences when we retuned
