That's not a good answer. Tradition? What does that mean, even to you? To me it means 'I don't have an answer as to why some sexual practices are ok and others are not so I'll hide behind a concept that sounds meaningful but isn't'

If you want evolution to ague that there is only one viable form of sexual union in the context of survival of the fittest you're fresh out of luck. In nature, all kinds of different sexual practices have evolutionary benefits, even same sex unions.

There's no legal tradition of defining marriage as 'between a man and a woman' in the US. The first such legal definition was passed less than 4 decades ago. Not sure that makes a strong case for the 'tradition' argument when it comes to civil marriage.

There was no national debate about gay marriage until a few years ago. That it doesn't exist now, to your knowledge, doesn't mean it won't soon. Especially when gay marriage opens that door.
