Without notarization i think its only gonna be a letter rather than an affidavit, because you can write 20 letters on your own :) I think a notary would make it much more credible.

We sent in to affadavits and neither one was notarized (and we were approved through VSC in under 3 months).

Both of our letters were from USCs but I don't know if that really matters. Our friend wrote a short letter which gave details of how she and her husband know my husband and me. She also included her address and noted she can be contacted. My mom wrote the other letter (my husband is the non-USC), which was longer and included dates and was more personal.

They don't have to be notarized and need NOT be from U.S citizens.

However, it maybe helpful since such persons may be required to testify before an immigration officer if needed.

If you decide to use affidavits, they must be notorized. That's the only time it becomes a sworn document because USCIS is aware we can all sit behind our computers and type up 100 affidavits and put our friends names on them. Many people sent in affidavits that were not notorized and got approved. That is because their case was approved based on the other documents they sent in and the affidavit was not even looked at. A child's birth certificate or joint bills say a lot about a couple than an affidavit. If it comes down to the affidavit to make a decision, a notorized one will be what they want. They use the word "sworn" . BTW it doesn't have to come from US citizens.

You may want to consult the definition of the word "affidavit".

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/affidavit

If it's not sworn before an authorized officer such as a notary, it's probably not an affidavit.

BTW, I'll point out that affidavits are not required. I know we sent none. So it's probably not surprising that some people are approved with un-notarized "affidavits" (really, just letters).

Um, not true. Our letters were not notarized and we were approved in less than 3 months (through VSC no less). Notarized just means that the person who is signing is really standing there in front of the notary - it doesn't mean that the couple has a real relationship.

You don't even NEED letters, though the directions suggest that you can use them. It's really secondary evidence - anyone can write a letter.

Thanks All! Also, I realized the mailing address in the instrurctions for VSC is:

USCIS Vermont Service Center

75 Lower Welden St.

PO BOX 200

St. Albans, VT 05479

The address states both a street # and PO Box #... seems strange. I was gonna mail it priority with tracking but Should I just mail it to: USCIS Vermont Service Center; 75 Lower Welden St.; St. Albans, VT 05479, and not include the PO BOX?

I am confused since i never addressed an envelop with both a street address and po box.

So as long as you don't have the rubric state "Affidavit", you don't need to have them notarized. The very term "affidavit" requires notarial seals. Affirmations and "letters" do not need to be notarized. If you write "Affirmation of Jim Smith", that's fine and doesn't need a notarization.

If you state "Affidavit of Jim Smith", then, you must have it notarized in order to be a true affidavit.

Affidavit of Support is not needed when removing conditions. The I-864 that accompanied your I-130 or Adjustment of Status is still in force.
