Don't let this stop you from posting here. Consider it an initiation by fire. You can gain so much knowledge here, so stick around. There are varying opinions here just as there are IRL. The key is to post questions, read the answers, contemplate what is right for your case, and choose for yourself how to proceed. There are some really good people on here that are willing to help you through your journey.

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

That is an exception with some merit if wanted to and intended to register, but were barred. It's those can but don't that are the focus now.

To the OP: None of this is about you. It's mostly about theory vs practice.

at the risk of being flamed i will give one example............for a while in Egypt u could not register ur marraige because the embassy was refusing to give a paper they required to do it ........ so some married but could not register it.......some of them ended up having to do k1 because of it.........they were caught in a catch 22 if they stated they were married they could not give what was required at the embassy because the embassy demanded it to be registered but they couldn't register it but on the other hand if they claimed they were married they didn't meet the requirements for k1 there were a couple of couples even here on vj caught in that mess..........

We were one of those couples and filed the K1 for that reason. I belive there are two others I am personally aware of that went thru the same situation. The US embassy would not provide us with paperwork...they claimed US citizens are at "free will" to marry and do not need the permission of a goverment embassy...it cleared up with the year I believe.

Yah 2007 is when the Embassy decided that US citizens didnt need papers. 2008 was back to the usual getting a paper from the Embassy declaring you are free to marry.

I know I had originally planned on going to visit Adam Jan 2007, but things happened and I went in July 2006 and we married then. So, if the original plan would have happened, we wouldnt have been married in 2007... and he wouldnt have gotten over here and applied for his AOS after the 2yr mark and he wouldnt have had his 10yr card... everything worked out better for us than what we originally planned on.
