Atlanta is brutal too. I had the ill fortune of being in Columbia SC for a few days one summer. Wow! Felt like being in eastern India, which is easily the worst humidity I've ever experienced.

It grows on you, though. Having lived in Middle TN for a decade after moving to the US from Germany, I have gotten very used to the hot and humid summers. The first couple of years were rather rough to be honest. But I do remember that summer I spent in Cincinnati prior to moving to Tampa - people there were talking about how hot and humid it is. I just laughed and told them that they know neither hot nor humid. It was quite comfortable, actually. Last summer, I managed quite well down here with an intermittently working A/C in my ole' Nissan. Ain't as bad down here as it is in, say, Nashville, TN or Atlanta, GA.

I don't want AC in my home - currently I don't pay zip in electric to keep it cool - the ambient temerature is just dandy.

You're in CA right? The climate there is a Mediterranean type climate and you usually don't need AC in such environments. Greece, for example, is nice and war during a summer day but cools down a lot at night. Humid climates on the other hand stay what feels like warm, all the time.

Cincinnati humid? #######

The following are humid. Personally, I like humid, as it's always warm. As you said though, you absolutely have to have air conditioning. Once you shut your Windows around May here, you will not reopen them until September. Whereas, I used to be able to leave my windows open all year round in Melbourne, AUS for some fresh air..

The Gangetic delta region of India and Bangladesh are extremely humid. That map doesn't have them colored. Strange.
