Hi,

I'm so confused, I contacted one of the civil surgeons from the list that doesnt rip you off:

City/Town: Charlotte

CS Name: Dr. Sonya Buchanan Concentra Medical Center

CS Tel. no: 704 338 1268 (1614 South Blvd 28203, 28208)

Cost: $40 (Just for transcription)

Vaccine Transcription only available: y

Dr Sonya no longer works there and is replaced by a Dr Shawn apparently. Spoke to Dr Shawn and she said that I have to take ANOTHER shot of MMR and ANOTHER shot of Varicella on top of the first ones I took in my previous medical.

She quoted 85 for MMR and 150 for Varicella. I'm confused, I took these shots in my previous medical prior to coming on a K1 and have the full vaccination chart copy from it. No case A or B, everything was fine. The only shots not given during the medical were those age specific and not relevant to me due to age.

Did anyone else have to have two shots of MMR and Varicella before getting your I-693?

Those shots are both a series shot, meaning that there are 2 or three of them to complete the series. I had already kept my husbands up to date through a checkup he had once on my insurance. I have read places where you really don't need to have them for your AOS, but you might as well complete them, because you will probably have to have them complete for removal of conditions anyway.

Page 2 shows the chart. A lot of people have mentioned needing 2 MMR shots (even though it says "1 or 2 doses" on the vaccination chart) but the varicella clearly says 2 doses.

All that said, you DO NOT need to have the shots done by a CS. You can find somewhere else cheaper (if you can) and then take the record of the shots along with the vaccination history TO the CS to have it transcribed. I would call around to see if you can get them done somewhere else, and also call the CS again and tell them that you have all shots and how much will it cost just to transcribe.

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies.

I did NOT know MMR and Varicella needed two doses. The CS did recommend calling the Health Department in my area to get the needed shots there and I was quoted $46 for MMR and $90 for Varicella.

Unfortunately one lady at the HD was very rude and said she only gives shots for Varicella to children. I asked her to repeat herself because she had a thick southern accent and she said "WE. ONLY. GIVE. SHOTS. TO. CHILDREN". Geeze.

The CS originally insisted I take a full medical till I argued with her that I am not required to by law as I am a K1 and completed my medical only last October which is less than a year ago. We went back and forth with me holding my ground till she finally relented and said the transcription 'administrative' fee was $40 but I needed those two shots.

Hey Farah,

Why don't you try other CS in another county or something? I'm sure there are other CS nearby that you could call and ask. Sometimes, the people are not very familiar with K-1 cases and they give you wrong informations. Did you have your medicals done in KL? Which doctor did you go to when you were in Malaysia? I had my MMR done only 1 shot and the doctor clearly written down as it's a complete shot. As for Varicella, I had to do my shot here because the doctor said it's required by USCIS... however, if you have had chicken pox before, you can just do a blood test to show full immunity. However, there are conflicts between whether this is all needed if your DS-3025 is written as "VH".... you can read them here....

It's all about playing safe, I think... hmm... just don't let them rip you off. I think I paid more than I needed to but I just wanted to get it done and over with! Heh... oh yeah, I got my NOA for AOS! just FYI heh :) GOod luck with yours!
