My wife must get her Police Certificate in Rostov-on-Don. Does anyone have experience with this? How long does it usually take? I've read mixed stories about it. I would appreciate any tips or tales of caution.

I don't know about Russia, but my wife is in Sri Lanka and on the US embassy in Sir Lanka website they said all I have to do is email them some basic info about my wife and they will get the report and mail it to her for free. Maybe you can do the same look around the website for info.

Finally, someone else that isn't a K-1 visa :).

Now I don't feel so alone.

As for the police certificate. My wife just requested hers in the beginning of Feb. They told her she would have it around the middle of March. So you're looking at a month and a half.

By law they're supposed to give it to you in 30 days, but we all know that's doubtful. So expect about a month and a half.

.... it's the only thing holding us up at the moment :(

Almost forgot to mention. If I remember correctly, she just has to go down to her local Administration office and request the report.

But don't forget she will need one for any place she's lived for long than 6 months.

From experience, I know if she's lived in the same region then they'll handle every place she's lived. I have no idea if you need to request another report if she's lived in different regions.

My wife is from Rostov-on-Don. She paid the right person 500 rubles (less than $18) and received her police certificate the next day.

As with all business in Russia you need to find the right person and pay the necessary amount.

My wife went the free route and had hers in about 3 weeks. As said above, sooner is very possible for the right price.

Thanks for the advice, everyone. The old-fashioned 500 ruble solution is exactly what I was hoping for. I'll let you know how it goes..

Yes reports from other regions also.

Well, didn't go so great. The woman there wouldn't take the offer. My wife thinks she wanted to, but was afraid because there were too many police officers there. So, maybe in 2 weeks is what they said. Oh well..

As I said, the right person and the necessary amount. That woman was not the right person. I should have asked you if this was in Rostov because we know the right person and probably could have hooked you up.

Good luck anyway. You will probably have what you need very soon.

Hi, I know I'm asking this one year later but I hope you're still on the site. I'm from Malaysia but I studied in Russia for 6 years (2002-2008) and so i will need the police certificate from Nizhny Novgorod. I know it's extremely difficult to get any official document from Russia if you don't know the right people. Previously everything was done through my medical academy. Now i'm totally confused about how to get this.

The Russian consulate in Malaysia is going to take months. Is it possible to get it within 3-4weeks? I'm willing to do whatever it takes. My interview might be in a month from now.

Please help if you can or at least let me know where to look for help?

Your only option for getting it quick is to pay someone in NN to physically go down there and get it for you. They'd probably want to see power of attorney or something like that so don't forget to pay for those too.

I found someone (my komendant obshezhitiye) to do it for me in NN. But how do i do the power of attorney thing? I can't seem to find an example of it online. Also if i manage to draft the power of attorney document in russian...would i need to get it stamped by the consulate or will the letter with my details and signature be enough?? Also...some say go to the local police and some say go to the GUVD of the city. Which would be the easier and faster way? I'm definitely prepared to pay. Would a copy of my passport and russian visa be enough? I don't have the registration card. They take it once you leave the country. All these little details are what's slowing me down.

Wish there was a guideline on how to do this and exactly what is needed. Sigh.

Another question: The US embassy would want a translation too right?
