Almost all workplaces forbid their employees from bringing a weapon to work, so that means she won't be able to protect herself with a gun to and from her car when she goes to work, for one. Secondly, most businesses require you to check all weapons before entering into their establishment, or restrict any weapons...like banks...places she's most likely to be driving to and from. So when you look at the few situations where a woman can legally carry a gun to and from her car, she'd be better off learning self defense as well as safety fundamentals. Reducing the chance of ever being in dangerous situation where they can end up being victimized is the best thing they can do.

Horsesqueeze. Where have you ever seen a bank that requires you to hand over your gun? Signs on businesses can be routinely ignored, it is no more than a private property request anyway. I choose to ignore it and what of it? They can kiss my @ss!!! Please stop with the BS. I carry my gun with me everywhere, including the bank. There is no such restriction. If an employer ever tells me that I can not carry my gun I will ignore the rule and do so anyway. The gun is CONCEALED. Why would I tell anyone I had it? If you try to injure me or my wife or children, you will have a big surprise coming your way. If I need to kill someone in order that the person not kill me...my employer can fire me afterwards. I carry a gun anywhere and everywhere with very few exceptions...school grounds for one thing, but I rarely go there and just leave my gun in the car when I do.

Charlton Heston is the real thing.

actually, it's a misdemeanor to carry when there is a "no conceal carry" sign present. and it can be cause for revocation of the cch license.

I carry a gun because a cop is too heavy.

People can make it through their entire lives without needing a gun.

Each to his own and I'm certainly not going to get one just because someone tries to use fear as an argument.

I support your choice to be unarmed. I wonder...would you advertise such? The funny thing is, that in most places that allow concealed carry Gene, most likely where YOU live, you are actually protected by the concealed weapons around you since the bad guys don't know if you have one or not. That is the point of concealed carry and why it has reduced crime so much wherever it is tried. Imagine you are a criminal and the only thing you know is that 1 in 10 people has a concealed handgun, or 1 in 20, or just that SOME people do. The minscule percentage of AIDS cases in the US has been enough to make huge changes in sexual behavior, what do think the reaction is with criminals faced with a much higher percentage of people that can inflict deadly lead poisoning?

 What do you mean, would I advertise it? What do you expect me do - go up to random people and say "I don't have a gun, so if you want to rob me - go ahead".

And no - I don't believe I am protected by concealed carry. I had no need for a gun when I lived in the UK, I didn't need one in NJ or NY and I don't one in CA. Unless you're saying that the average person is in more immediate danger in the US than they are in the UK - though I expect you'd get yourself into a pickle if you tried to attack that one.

Depends on the state Charles. Such is actually a very rare case, few states have such rules. There is no such rule in Vermont. A business owner can ask you to leave if they choose. If you refuse you can be charged with class 3 misdemeanor tresspass, whether you have a gun or not makes no difference. There is no permit to revoke in Vermont...anyone can carry concealed, we don't need no stinking permits. Kentucky, for example, imposes a $25 fine for violating a "no carry" sign, no loss of permit. In general these signs get ignored. In general they also tend to come down after some time. Vermont has always allowed concealed carry and such signs are non-existant here.

many concealed carry laws have been passed with all sorts of add on rules like this...most of which are repealed in a few years (when it is discovered by the morons that didn't already know) that they are useless anyway. I wouldn't even bother to read such a sign, let alone comply with it.

Exactly my point. Exactly why the law is for concealed carry.

It doesn't matter if you believe it or not. Crime rates have consistently declined in states with liberal concealed carry laws, that benefits everyone, whether they carry concealed or not. I know for a fact you are in more danger in California with a heavily restricted and discriminatory concealed carry law, than you are in Vermont with no prohibition on concealed carry at all. Our homocide rate is less than 1 in 100,000. It has been nearly 4 years since there was a random homocide in this state. There were 4 homocides last year, in the whole state. All were of some domestic dispute nature. No one walking down the street is in danger, yet many many people carry concealed handguns. Many more carry them in their cars (no carjackings in the state...none) and nearly everyone has a gun in the house (miniscule burglary rates). And this is in liberal we-voted-for-gay-marriage Vermont! (Washington DC with its 25% decline this year is still 35 times higher in homocide rate, with a similar population, Washington DC had 140 homocides, and they do not allow concealed carry) And yes, even safer than in England, and I still carry a gun everywhere I go. It is my duty to keep the crime rate low.

Scholars continue to debate which was the quintessential Dirty Harry phrase. I personally prefer this one.

Clint Eastwood could kick Charlton's a$$. What kind of a sissy name is Charlton?

You better not say that to Charlton. Not unless you wanna wind up dead. Then again, he's been a few years himself.....

Gary you live in the second least populous state in the country, with a predominantly old, white population. It's not exactly a "happening" place for gang crime.
