Police Certificate in canada takes 120 days or so

Hey guys im just a little bit upset after everything we completed all the requirements aside from the police certificate in canada...i cant believe we have to wait that long.....they said it takes 120 days or so for waiting......

I'm a little ignorant to the police certificate. I'm also Canadian and am wondering where you got the information from for your police certificate.

Myabe you can get it faster....i am applying mine overseas for i was just working in toronto for 1 year...i contacted the RCMP and thats what they said the processing takes 120 days i didnt expect that long if i just known i aplly it earlier but scared for its expired in 3 months and dont know how the NVC goes.

I got approved for the noa2 quite quick and have pretty much all the paperwork except for the Rcmp certificate.. I did email them and was told that it is entered into their system and is being processed at this time... they are unavailable to give me a timeframe on when they will have it completed. I will continue to email them until it gets here. They are very busy and i understand that but this could hold up my process.

Canadiandggal, did you apply for one from within Canada or outside? I think if you apply for them outside, it can take a long time (as with shairajj).

But either way, it's good to know it can take awhile. I'll have my wife start the process right away, even though we're only one month in on the I-130.

Do you know how long are they good for? 3 months?

My husband applied for his in Calgary, and was told it would be 1 - 2 weeks. But his is the name check one, he doesn't require the fingerprint one. And I think they (the Canadian ones, at least) are good for 6 months, but I haven't double checked that yet.

My wife applied for the police cert through the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP)..it took her a few days. She had to pay a small fee for it. She lives in Canada still. And apparently the OPP Said they will have that document on file for a year..then it expires. (I am just going off what they told she and I at the office)

They asked if this was for Immigration to the USA, and then did it for us.

wow thats really long...unless your outside of canada? mine took one week, but I just had to apply at the local city police station.

For Canadians IN Canada:

You DO NOT need to go to the RCMP unless you have a criminal record. You can go to your local police station or the Commissionaires to get your PCC done.

We did ours through the Comms - went in on Friday, had it by Tuesday for $30.

I was able to get mine through the local RCMP detachment in Niagara Region on the spot for free.

this VJ'er applied for their's from Japan and got it in less than 3 months it seems

in canada if you do not have a criminal record you can just go to your local police station and get a name check done through the cpic database. i live in windsor ontario, but have also lived in quebec as well. i went in on monday and got a call tuesday saying it was ready. paid 40$. however you can only do th is in the city you live. if your are from another city or outside canada you may have to pay more and go through rcmp.

but still 120 days..lis a bit much if you ask me.
