DCF for Ottawa questions

Hi Again,

My husband and I have begun gathering the information for the I-130. We also have a sponsor...Yaaaaay.

I have a few questions, even after spending hours and days of reading.

1)Since we fall under the US Embassy in Ottawa, how do we schedule an appointment or can we just show up during hours of business with the I-130 and supporting documents? I see on the website where we can schedule an appointment for a visa, but it's not a visa we are applying for. I also see the email address and was wondering if I should email for an appointment.

2)Is my husband able to schedule an appointment with a Commissionaire for a name check and does he need a specifc form to do this or can we just explain why he is requesting the name check? He has never lived in any other country but Canada; 2 Provinces total.

3)Is my husband able to schedule and perform his medical prior to the request from the packets?

4) Is a National Expresspost envelope required the day of filing the I-130?

I am a naturally born USC, and a Canadian PR, by marriage to my husband. My husband is a naturally born Canadian.

Thank you for your help.

Lily

For those of you living in Eastern Ontario, filing through Ottawa, requiring an appointment.

As my post states above, I was unsure how to begin the contact process...so I stepped outside the box.

The Sunday before, I contacted the Embassy at the email address: ottawaconsatstate.gov, which is located on their website requesting an appointment to file the I-130. email below:

Good Day,

I, Jan Smith, a naturally born USC, would like to schedule an appointment to file an I-130, with my naturally born Canadian husband, John Smith.

I am a Canadian PR and am a resident in XXXXXX, Ontario.

We have obtained all the information necessary to proceed with the application/request.

We look forward in hearing from you.

Have a Great Day,

Jan Smith

I received an email response in less then 24 hours. I was requested to phone the office and ask for a "John Doe". In doing so, the gentleman asked me a few basic questions:

Our names

When did we marry

My present status

He requested me to bring originals with a set of copies

He was very chatty and polite. We talked about the USA vs. Canada Hockey game, had a few laughs, he then requested my email address to send the Appointment Checklist. He remained with me over the line, to ensure the email was received.

On Friday of last week, I was prepared and organized, so I sent an email to John Doe, letting him know we were ready to proceed. Since I did not hear from him, today I forwarded the email I sent on Friday asking: Just ensuring you received the request for the appointment below

Wala  ...less then an hour later a response...we have an appointment with John Doe, in Ottawa on Thursday of next week!

Wish us luck! Though I'm more of a prayer person! (L)

But I do have a question: Is a National Expresspost envelope required the day of filing the I-130? Thank you everyone on assisting us to jump the first hurdle!

Hope this assists someone in the Eastern Ontario region!

Congrats, Lily! First big step, eh?

As for the above, our envelope was returned to us, they didn't need it at all - and I'm still trying to figure out why they would need it. Just bring one (the largest size) to your interview in Montreal.
