I noticed that very little food was put in the fridge in Pakistan and it shocked me...do I need to brace myself for fridge issues LOL?

Not sure. Ukrainians and Russians also have a strong belief that cold things make you ill. You will become ill from drinking cold water, for example. Iced tea is seen as, basically, drinking cyanide. My wife beleievs I can do this because of my "strong North American immune system" from years of sturdy pioneer lineage (my grandfather was born in England) .

She does not put things in the refrigerator voluntarily. This means milk, eggs, cheese, meat, etc. She is really not to pleased when I do it and thinks we are all a little daft and hypochondriatcs. My opinion? Cold water will NOT make you sick, warm meat left on the counter...WILL.

Stephen, geez, give it up, OK? You were wrong and admitted it, much more than I usually expect from a liberal but you gotta let it go, dude.

I'll give it up when you give up your masturbatory obsession with it, big boy. Whaddya say?

Who said anything about which one happened first...except you? Feel free to look up what I wrote and copy and paste it here if you wish to keep rehashing over your inability to comprehend, let alone walk away with dignity when you've been proven wrong.

Actually, I didn't, you did. I only said I bet your son knows which happened first. Stop being so defensive Stephen. I wouldn't know myself but I imagine it cannot be so terrible to make mistakes. I mean you are a liberal, aren't you used to it?

OK; I'll join in here, si man. Apparently, this is not unique to my Ecuatoriana: She (& her country(wo)men) will, for example, cook a pot of something, then leave it on the stove for days, usually unlidded. (The only foodstuff that I would leave out for days would be leftover pizza, si man, because mold is a vegetable, si man.) Also, there is an apparent cultural fascination with conducting odoriferous "science experiments" in the refrigerator, phew man.

My husband used to think the same way. I will cook a big pot of arroz con pollo or something and when everyone is done eating, I just put it in a nice big tupperware and put it in the fridge. At first, he would look at me and say "leave it out, just put a top on it" and I'd look at him like this  . I'm not big on waste, so I don't really like to use plastic bags too much, but I do keep my cut vegetables in them (ex. half of a tomato, or lettuce or something like that) because I don't want them browning or going bad. In Peru, they just throw stuff in the fridge with no plastic over it or top on it. Gross man!

Now, he has changed his mind and decided he wants to bring his mom a big box of ziploc baggies from Costco the next time we visit  He has clearly seen the better side!

Separately, she still doesn't seem to grasp that the cat is a member of the family, and not merely an animal, as they are in Ecuador. Sidebar: Shortly after her arrival, she happened upon a copy of "Cat Fancy" magazine, and exclaimed in true amazement "You mean that there's a magazine about cats?!" She spent considerable time thereafter telling her family (at international phone rates) all about this loco Americano publication, si man.

We have two cats. One is named Pumpkin and the other one is "Kitty Cat" (don't ask... my 5 year olds named her). Anyway, my husband like refused to call them by their names for at least a month. In Peru they call all cats 'michi.' I asked him how he would feel if we all just started calling him 'guy' or 'dude.' He got the picture.

However, in Peru there are a LOT of things they do better than here, like going to the market on a semi-daily basis for fresh fruits & veggies, breads and meat. This is something we've started doing too, it really only takes 5 or 10 min out of the day and makes a big difference in the quality of food you eat.

My husband has grown to love iced tea and puts ice in all his drinks now. His family thinks we're nuts and even went so far as to say that we might be more susceptible to the swine flu  Apparently I should stop drinking cold drinks now or my mother in law says 'the baby's milk is going to be too cold for her when she's born.'

With what?

Jeezuz Stephen. I said your avatar looks French. You agreed because it is a drawing of your son who is part French and you agreed I have a good eye. (Thanks, I do appreciate the arts) So far, what is the problem? Then I complimented your son that I bet he knows history well, especially about French things because he is part French. And now you go off like a volcano and get all defensive and insulting. Very strange. I suppose it is because you are so sensitive about your previous and obvious blunder in another thread which other posters pointed out and you admitted to. hey it happens to some people Stephen, relax.

FWIW, our son looks Russina and knows that the Russian revolution occured after the American Revolution (and after the French Revolution) but I don't suppose there will be any forthcoming compliments from you about that.

You are a strange dude, Stephen

yeah, and #######, you let your child play in all that dangerous cold snow stuff? Just kidding. For whatever reason Alla has no problem skiing, loves it, and has no problem with the boys skiing and riding snowmobiles, etc. But she won't sit on a cold bench outside and tells young girls not to do this as it will damage their "female parts" and they "will not be able to make babies". Go figure.

OMG, I don't think my husband would EVER put ice in ANY drink...EVER..lol. He loves Coke, and sometimes, if there isn't room in the fridge, we will store them in the pantry if not yet opened. He will open up a warm bottle and drink it at room temperature! He thinks even adding 2 ice cubes will water down the taste too much.

Your keen sense of all things French are nearly eclipsed by your cunning abilities to be less obvious. I'll bet you can not only smell McDonald's french fries, from miles away, you could sneak up on 'em without them knowing you are on their scent.

I also think my husband has some much better habits than I do. He isn't the typical male slob. He usually cleans up after himself. I am the one who lets things sit around longer or get cluttered. We drive each other crazy sometimes with that stuff. :D

My wife and her family in India, and my extended family in India, all say the same thing. I'm considered to be the family freak because I will pull things out of the fridge and just eat them without heating. My wife insists that eating cold food will make me sick. And when I do get sick (for other reasons) she will insist it had something to do with that slice of cold pizza (pizza is best cold!) I had last night.

My suitcase is still on the living room floor. I came back from India over a week ago. She is going to scream about it any day now, I keep thinking I should move it but then I don't feel like it. It's convenient where it is.
