Quick question -- when getting from the airport in Montreal (Trudeau) to downtown, is it cheaper / better to take the Aerobus, or a taxi? Aerobus is $16 each way, which seems a little pricey to me, especially since I can't tell from their website WHERE they drop you off downtown...

Then again, it's a twenty minute cab ride, which is likely going to be at least $30, correct? Hmm!

It may be cheaper to rent a car after all. I just find that a bit of a pain though, especially since I don't know the city at all. Hmm. Plus overnight parking at the hotel. Double hmm...

I'll admit that I only recall looking into the system briefly, but doesn't the underground metro or whatever it is run from out that way? It goes to a couple of blocks away from the consulate at most.

Yes, we took the taxi from the airport to our hotel ( La Tour) and hubby paid $45-including the tip-ONE WAY!

Okay, that's out of the question for me. I mean, I COULD pay that much...but I won't! Car rentals are in the $35 range for a day, so that would be a better option for me...but I think I'm going to stick with the Aerobus. It's a two kilometer walk from the station to my hotel, but I'd rather do that than spend an extra $60 round trip...

I promise you I'm not frugal! I just think that's too much money!

Drivers are crazy here and most of the streets around the consulate are 1 way. We drove to Montreal and parked our van at the hotel and have walked every where. Consulate is maybe a 5 minute walk.

There are several metro stops that are close to the consulate... and they open pretty early too. And its really safe and nice to walk around Montreal... I mean, we walked along St. Catherine (which at some parts resembles the red lights district) at 5 am and are still alive to talk about it...

Whatever transit you take from the airport to downtown MTL, do not take the bus Hubby and I paid 6 dollars for both ways, but it took us two frigging hours to get to downtown. My butt hurt after being on the Megabus from TO to the public bus to take us to our hotel. The only saving grace I had that kept me from breaking down was I hadnt seen my hubby for so long, thus I didnt mind the bus ride cause it meant I got to hold hands with him for 2 full hours

That said, I would take the shuttle bus because they are cheaper than the cab. Unless theres two of you coming, then the cab is cheaper and more convenient.

there are no subway stations near the airport. it's in the west island of montreal. youd still have to bus it to a depot xfer twice and then the subway station etc etc pain in the butt. take the shuttle bus easier faster cheaper. taxis from airport to anywhere are a minimum 36$. trust me i grew up there lol you dont wanna drive either. i hate downtown...shudder.
