Congrats Mal,

Hey what time is it recommended I be there? 630? 615? Its first come first serve right?

Hey what did your lease agreement say basically? I found one online and printed it out as I'm living with my parents for the time being so I don't have a mortgage or utility bills so I already signed a lease agreement and I just ticked off the area that says month by month and whenever an amount was requested of what I owe, I just put in 0 as my parents do not charge me rent.

Do they just want to see something that "looks" official and has landlords signatures on it? How long did she examine it?

I didn't have a lease agreement when I moved back from my old apartment to my parents in august so I just backdated it to 9/1/09, which works for when I moved out of my old apt. and I'm just going to get my parents to sign it as landlords, hope this is good enough.

Thanks

Remember that Malrothien and her hubby have been doing Direct Consular Filing, which is a bit different from a standard CR-1 interview.

You won't need the lease agreement if you're just doing CR-1.

Oh, I see, well, I just wanted to have something "official" I guess that stated I live there. Well, now that I think about it, I have some things, I printed off summary page of phone bill, made a copy of a check to my local credit union for my car loan, i have my NYS drivers license, have a copy of a earnest check for a house I'm in the process of buying along with the contract...

But you can't be too careful :-) I figure I'd just add that to my folder. I plan on holding onto a "further evidence" sort of folder in case the interviewer has any beef with anything.

I'm probably overworried about this too. My health insurance just kicked in today, I don't have my cards yet. They aren't going to ask for proof of that, are they? I know they sometimes ask if I have it and if my wife can get on it, which is both "yes." All I have is email proof from my boss that its starting on the 1st.

...

thanks.

Well, if you're the USC, they really don't need much from you. Most of the onus is on the Canadian who is moving to the United States. From a financial standpoint, all they'll want from you will be your tax statements from the last three years, and copies of paychecks. If you've got a co-sponsor, maybe it's a bit different...but if it's a typical case of you being the USC, sponsoring your Canadian wife, they're almost certainly not going to ask for things like car loan documents etc.

It was a basic Florida state lease agreement. Both me and my grandmother signed it and dated it for Feb. 1/10 with a notation that the first payment wasn't due until Mar. 1. I don't know how long the woman looked at it, but hubby did say that she commented that it was the original.

Remember that Malrothien and her hubby have been doing Direct Consular Filing, which is a bit different from a standard CR-1 interview.

You remember quite wrong, we did not file DCF, we filed regularly. And yes, he will need a lease agreement if he filed prior to moving back to the US to help prove domicile.

Montreal: BEAT!!! Approved!!!!!

Mal, what was your status in Canada? See I think I'm a completely different situation, I'm on NY border town. I always have had my paperwork and official things in the states. But I visited my wife extended periods of time and I see her everyday, traveling back and forth. But I never had a PR or anything for Canada just a visitor record for ease of visitation in Canada, I don't think its an issue, but just in case I am bringing more than I think will be required of me. I'm probably wasting my ink and time but, its better to be safe than sorry :-)

My apologies...I misspoke. But ultimately you guys had domicile issues, whereas Mike777 doesn't. He lives in the U.S., so lease agreement etc. shouldn't be an issue.
