US passport or PI, they have dates of issue and date of expiration, you need gotta look at it.....

Passport issue/exp. for a child is 5 years same for US and PI.

I'm just shooting in the dark here, but don't US post offices do passports? Can you take the pasport to a post office to see if they can verify it's validity?

Or why not call them to find out the validity?

Good luck.

Need to check with the Dept of Homeland Security and/or the Department of State,, But, another poster is correct in that the US Postal Service processes the passports and they will be able to direct you to correct contact number.

If the husband made a false report about the loss of a passport it usually requires filing a police report as well... This could very well be a felony...

You should not be able to use a US passport to remove a minor child from the US without the approval of the other parent. The US is very strict about that. If you have an unhappy divorce he probably prewarned Customs and Border that you intend to take the child out of the US. If you are planning travel with the child make sure that you have the proper paperwork with you in advance if the other parent isn't traveling or you and the child may not be allowed on the plane.

This will not be over quickly. You will not enjoy this.

Nothing difficult here.. Just call them: The National Passport Information Center (NPIC) phone number: 1-877-487-2778.

I did call them to inquire something about my passport and they were very helpful. They can tell you exactly what you need to do without going around in circles or complicating yourself with lawyers and such.

On the information pages of the passport (page 5?) it has a phone number you can call to report the passport lost/stolen, I would imagine that they could tell you whether or not it has been cancelled.
