We really need some more info here. Is this person married to a US Citizen? How long have they had a Green Card? That determines what box to check.

check A, LPR for 5 years.

Not sure if they care but 3 years they might request evidence to support the marriage.. that's usually the difference when GC holders apply after 3 years and married to a USC.

Not sure if it matters in your case, but I would maybe wait until someone with better knowledge of this topic posts an answer.

If she's eligible to check both box A and box B, then it's her choice, but the application is simpler if she checks box A (five years LPR). If you go through the document checklist near the end of the M-476, you'll see that those who file based on marriage have to include documents relating to the marriage. Those who check box A don't need to include such documents. Why make the process more complicated than it has to be?

I have heard of at least one instance where someone was in that situation and checked box B, and then at the interview, the officer noted that the applicant had held the green card more than five years, so the officer switched it to box A to make the interview simpler. I'm not sure if that was just something that interviewer did on his own, or if that's a general policy.
