mailing dilema

Hi everyone, I live in California. I'm gonna file for IR-1 soon for my wife. And soon after that I have to go abroad for work. Nobody will be here at home to check my mail. My friends can't do it. So I'm thinking about setting up US post office mail forwarding to my sister's place in New York and she will check the mail for me.

I understand that they only forward mail that is first class (so not junk mails) and that doesn't say something like “Return Service

Requested” or “Change Service Requested”. So please tell me if you think mail from USCIS will be ok. Can you please do me a favor and check your envelopes if you have any from them specifically from your IR-1 application process? And tell me what they say-- I mean, will it get forwarded?

Also, what is your opinion of my forwarding idea? Will I be ok doing this? If things go well, I should just expect notices of action which say that my application has been received and my application has been approved and forwarded to NVC? That's it right..

MOST USCIS postal mail has a notice on the outside of it -

'POSTMASTER - DO NOT FORWARD'.

So with a USPS forwarding order in place, AND this 'statement' on the outside of the letter - it will all go back to USCIS.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

I had some other suggestions to give, but re-read the I-130 itself, looking at the address block areas.

Here's what I would have said, prior to reading:

1. get a private post box at a 3rd party company. Have yer friends check the mail there. Use that address for USCIS. They can scan and email any notices to you.

2. fill out yer sisters address in the forms, instead. (this is a bad idea, after reflection)

-----

so - here's my suggestion, after reading the I-130 again.

in any address block on YOU -

write in 'see attachment' - ONLY

then make the attachment paper -

there's a quickie format to it - but say:

1. I'm out of the country working for XX months.

2. physical address - do not use for postal mail:

124 anywhere lane, Valencia CA 81332

3. POSTAL ADDRESS FOR ALL CORRESPONDENCE

PO Box A4-412, Valencia, CA 81332-412

for the quickie format -

top of page

'I-130 Petition - Attachment Page 1

Petitioner: Your Name / SSN

Beneficiary: Yer Spouse's Name / Her Passport #

Block 2 - Line 2 (put address thingies here)

then at the bottom

'Attachment Page 2 - YourLastName/HerLastName

--------

----

so - after you get NOA-1 - you can sign up for 'online casefile info' -

suggest you monitor it every week or so.

Hi Darnell,

Thanks you're very helpful. But I'm worried.. I could include an attachment sheet, but their computer system where they enter the data might be similar to the I-130 form I fill out. In that case there will be a space for a home address- that's it. So I don't think they will be enter these special instructions into their system if there is no option for it.

Here is a picture of one of the envelopes I got from USCIS during my naturalization. http://i46.tinypic.com/111nw61.jpg It seems forwardable. What do you think? Anybody got info of envelopes from the IR-1 application?

I got my NOA1 envelope and it says PRESORTED FIRST CLASS on it.

Nothing about

"Return Service Requested” , “Change Service Requested” or 'POSTMASTER - DO NOT FORWARD'.

Hope that helps.
