My guy, Guru, is in India. I'd like to send him some little American gifts as surprises in the mail but not sure what to send. Any suggestions before he joins this website community? I'm not sure about the cultural aspects and what type of things to send. Any and all advice much appreciated!! Thanks!! :)

Based on where you're from, how about a Styrofoam "Cheese head" hat? :P

My husband is from Georgia, he sent me a Waffle house mug for my birthday the year we met.

I never understand asking strangers for gift suggestions - surely you have some idea what your SO finds interesting/fun/amusing/would like to recieve as a gift from you? Just because they live somewhere else, doesn't really mean your gift should be 'culturally appropriate' does it?

I have put you on ignore. No really, I have, but you are still ruining my enjoyment of this site. .

There's always the ever popular #4 Green Bay jersey.

I sent my wife Bears-logo'd merchandise while she was still in Thailand. I think she had the only blue&orange earmuffs in all of Bangkok :P

Giving books is common but I like receiving them. :D

Why don't you give him a copy of the Upanishads (if he's Hindu) or anything by Rumi or Deepak Chopra?

 You sure started the indoctrination early.

I managed to get a bandy jersey from our local Vänersborg bandy team (used by the team which is one of the better ones in Sweden) for Dave one year. He wears it with a Thrashers hat to the hockey games here in ATL.

Giving a book is a good idea. How about a book on American history? (Or maybe Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus :P ).

Personally I think you should get him something "local" to you and your community or something personal from somewhere you've been together. When in doubt, go for a smile. When we were apart Dave had a necklace made for me. The necklace is made to resemble his nickname for me. On my next visit I brought a flask engraved with the same symbol as the necklace.

Good one. I thought about the same for my man back then. However, I am aware that he doesn't like wearing any ornament. He likes SCUBA diving a lot so I gave him a book on diving Southeast Asia. He was able to use it when he visited me in my country. The book says there are great places for diving in Indonesia, Thailand, etc.
