My wife and I have been trying to contact the Uzbekistan Embassy in the U.S. (Not NY) to get an answer to this question but they don't have any room left on their voicemail system for several days an no one seems to be answering.

My wife's passport has her maiden name on it. When she came through the JFK airport after visiting her family the last time she got a stern response from the DHS rep who checked her passport. She was actually detained and questioned based on this (and another issue which is cleared now).

Does anyone know the best way to get an updated passport (with her new name) for her Uzbekistan/Russian nationality without having to go all the way back to Uzbekistan to get it changed?

I am in the exact same situation... If you have any info on this please let me know if you find out!!

We have been told that you can do this by :

obtaining a Locally County Certified ' Mariage Certificate '

then sending this to your State and getting them to Certify the ' Marriage Certificate '

then sending this to the Federal Govt in DC and getting them to Certify the ' Marriage Certificate '

once you have all (3) three certificates " we have been told " that you can take or send it to the Uzbek GC in NYC or Embassy in DC and they will Certify the Marriage Cert for the Uzbek side and

then the Uzbek GC or Embassy will have the necessary paper work for you to fill out to get a new passport.

We have not done this yet but we did visit the Uzbek GC in NYC and they ' told ' us this is the procedure.

As well you will also be issued a 20 year OVIR ! ?

We are in the process on the US side as of now....

Advise any questions or comments.
