 Brilliant, libertarianism is now simply having the freedom to make choices from options that are available. Hello, we have that kind of libertarianism in the 'socialist' uk, who knew?

Dude, I hope you have Kevlar protection.

I'm teasing... though some are almost over 'motherly'

This ignorance is why from being the leaders of the free world, America has become the butt of jokes of the free world. You don't care..fine. A simple history lesson though would illustrate that a majority of superpowers have risen and fallen because of this attitude; after all, the US is not the first nation in the world. Rest assured that China and co have their eyes on you like a hawk. With a federal government having $2.4 trillion in liquid cash and an economy growing at 7% to 9%, they are rapidly catching up; as is a number of countries.

A sample of history easily shows that nations who interfere and expand themselves too much get shut down. It's why I'm highly against our interventionism in the world.

What many libertarians I speak to fail to realize is that like it or not, we are part of a global economy now. Long gone are the days when the majority of activity focused around domestic markets alone. Therefore, you either embrace and harness this change or you fall victim to it. Furthermore, the world you ignore is actually where a vast number of American businesses now derive their profits from.

The house can stay divided. Just keep in mind that foreign nations are keen to exploit this weakness using their unified centralized resources.

and THAT is precisely the problem with the world today. A global economy is part of the overlying problem. Where the value of currency is decided on by bidders all throughout the world? Are you ###### kidding me. That can't be good for any nation at all, especially if others want to gang up on them if given the reason too.

China isn't where our next biggest war will be, I'd look more into Africa if you want to see where the next major conflict in the world is going to be...... Vast resource that all nations want (including China). The problem being with China, is they don't have the military power to challenge us there nor do they have the Navy to get here either. Actually, the entire world's navies could form together and not amount to the Navy we have..... We'd obliterate the world in a heartbeat with the flick of a switch. Now THAT is power. Do I think we should have it? Probably not, but it's the reason why people don't #### with us too much.

Actually libertarians are the ones who aren't crying and complaining about child labour and slave wages in other countries. For the sole reason that it gives those people jobs. If all those brand name clothes companies ended their sweat shops, what would those people working there do?

Libertarians are the ones who want to lower or get rid of corporate income taxes, so that companies won't move to the Cayman Islands. Google paid 1% income taxes to the US last year because they moved "their revenue sources to a different location." Nice euphemism they use there. LOL Libertarians are the ones who want to compete with other countries. The Dems/Repubs on the other hand think we should distance ourselves further.

Illegal aliens.....Two trains of thought from Libertarians. One is let them in, but don't offer them free goodies. No more free health care. No free education. No Section 8 housing. They should pay their own way (like we at VisaJourney do) The other is the more traditional approach of simply following the rule of law that says the border should be secure. Nowhere will you find libertarians advocating higher taxes to take care of illegals.

In Texas, illegal aliens pay in-state tuition at universities. But if you're a US citizen who moved here from say New Mexico to go to a Texas university, you pay the much higher out of state tuition rate. Ridiculous.

Illegal aliens are in essence what libertarians rail against in all sorts of issues. That being people who expect others to subsidize them.

After four years I am starting to believe I must have imagined choice in AUS. Every day I hear how thankful I should be of freedom..

You don't get it. By choice, China does not waste their money spending every dollar they have on military. They learned from the Soviet Union bankrupting themselves doing so. Instead they invest $300 Billion in a nationwide bullet rail system and so on. Projects that will benefit their people for years to come.

Slavery and child labour are legitimate because they give people 'opportunities' they wouldn't otherwise have? Can this get any more absurd, even while acknowledging that, yes, today is Friday ;)

I'm not a one to tell people to move, but seriously some of you libertarians really are in the wrong country if this is what you believe is ethically/ morally defensible and something you passionately believe in.

China still needs resources and why the US is moving slowly but surely into Africa to make sure they don't get it.... We are slowly and steadily increasing our military force there and it's going to get ugly.

I highly disagree with it mind you, but they are doing it...

Here is the first logical thing you have pointed out. Personally, I think that out of state tuition should be abolished, as it serves no purpose. It basically prevents students from being exposed to other parts of the country.

Except then all states would have to agree on the same state tax rate right?

Tuition rates amuse me because how in the hell can a public school charge such high tuitions when they receive millions of dollars in funding from the government as well....

I blame the professors who make $500k to show up to 2 or 3 class sessions a year.. WASTE.

The average starting salary for a professor is closer to 65K.

China needs the resources because they are growing and heavily investing in their infrastructure and economy; with the central government being the nerve center of their growth.

The US needs resources because people waste so much of it and it's literally throw into the trash. We're certainly not investing in replacing or improving the decades old dilapidated infrastructure. Take a road trip from NYC to LA as an example, half the country looks like an abandoned ghost ship. Why? Because Repubs and now libertarians want zero investment in the country. Actually, this lack of investment is why Houston and Dalles have 5.8 million and 6.6 million people respectively in the area, yet cities like Melbourne, Sydney or Vancouver absolutely destroy these two; cities that have far less populations too might I add. Those countries heavily invested in their cities and the end result speaks for itself.

Average, yes. Wasn't talking about the 'average'

Remember there has to be something higher (and something lower) to create an average ;) (well technically they could all be 'uniform' to get the same result.... but yeah).

My point is though, is just as with anything else there's plenty of waste out there that comes down on the students.
