Age Difference Red Flags?

How tough are they on you when there is an age difference? We have one of about 13 years, but I, the female, is the younger one. I have read when the woman is older it throws up some flags, but for our situation do they often make a big deal?

Not sure if it matters (it probably shouldn't but sometimes it's taken into consideration anyway) I would be coming from Canada, which isn't exactly a high visa fraud country.

Here In thailand. lots of ppl have age difference between 1 - 34 yrs but they get visa every one

I'm afraid that's incorrect if the woman is older. In predominantly Muslim countries a 45 year old previously unmarried man marrying a 58 year old woman who cannot bear her husband's children, would get significantly more scrutiny due to cultural issues. I will say though that we don't see a lot of 40 to 45 year old male beneficiaries from those countries. Usually they are under 35 with many in their 20's marrying women more than 20 years their senior.

Oh geeze, if I were 20+ years younger than him there would be some definite jail time involved.

13 years, younger woman rarely sees problems (so long as everyone's legal )

13 years, older woman could be problematic, even in low fraud countries.

I've got closer to 10 years than 9 over L, and we're pretty sure we won't get thrown into AP unless they wig about the age difference, and if they ultimately deny us, I'll just move to Brazil in the fall, become fluent in Portuguese, get a job, and in a few years, we'll DCF. Not our first pick (but a wicked cheaper one), but our families support us either way.

When a consulate is attempting to decide if a relationship is bona-fide, they very often apply the cultural standards of the beneficiary's country. So for a lot of countries and regions: MENA, SE Asia, India, where age differences in couples are very unusual, and most people are very traditional, it could be a problem. It doesn't help matters that a lot of these very traditional countries are also considered "high fraud" by the US consulates. An age difference (particularly where the woman is older) is a particularly large red flag to them, in a situation where they're already very picky and, it seems, are just looking for excuses to deny.

Canada is generally going to be much more mellow about this sort of thing, as they are with most things. Especially since you're younger than your husband-to-be. As Rhiannercakes said, it may get mentioned, but it is supremely unlikely to be an issue.
