So I read some older posts about the xpress post envelope.

I'm curious, I have read absolutely nothing about this on any correspondence from the government about needing an envelope when one shows up for a CR1 interview.

I will have my wife go out and get one though at shoppers.

So she has to get an Xpress Post envelope, and since shes ontario, it can be regional? I'm curious, what happens if one shows up at their interview with no envelope? What else does she have to ask for when getting it? Postage paid as well to her Canadian address?

Also, I hear that we should request signature so essentially its not smushed into the mailbox, what in there is at risk of being smushed, isn't her passport in there? That's small and unsmushable...

Thanks!

It states on the doors of the consulate as well that you require an envelope, and, if I recall correctly, where to get one at the last minute should you have forgotten.

She will need to get an XpressPost Regional Pack (the largest size) envelope, and it's recommended to pay the extra money to have them put a signature required sticker on it... which is another $2, I believe. There is a spot to fill in her address (To:) once she has the envelope in hand. She must fill this out, but not fill out the consulate's address (From:). Postage paid is included in the cost of the envelope.

Most of us weren't too thrilled with the idea of our passports being thrown in the mailbox, not because of it getting damaged, but because that's essentially the be-all, end-all of personal documents when it comes to this process, no? It's just an extra step to hopefully ensure it doesn't get lost.

Also, once your wife has the envelope in hand, she'll want to write down the tracking number that's on the outside.

Not so much the passport but there is a larger envelope included that you DO NOT OPEN :) to be handed over at your POE. If you have small mailbox that might get crushed.

I DO wish that they would state the Xpresspost mailer requirement on the checklist. I mean, here on VJ we have the tacit understanding that it's needed...but for those hapless folks who have just done things according to USCIS requirements the whole way through, they must really get a last minute shock!

It's really not so bad. We didn't bring a mailer when we filed the I-130. They were very nice, told us where a postal outlet was (just around the corner). We just popped out and got one then returned.

Hm, they should update their documentation that they mail out to people. Well, its good there's an option to go there at the last minute, but if I'm waiting in line and then I'm told I have to get this envelope, I'm not going to lose my place in line so I'll just be prepared with an envelope ahead of time.
