I love Mr. Springsteen but a 396 was a big block Chevrolet (Mark IV) that was introduced in 1965 to replace the old 348 and 409 engines (Mark I) that were considered obsolete. Mark II and Mark III were racing, experimental engines that never went into production.

Early 396 blocks could be overbored to 4.251", combined with a 3.76" stroke that would yield 427 cubic inches. Fuel injection was never used on Big Blocks. Fuelie heads were

on small block Chevys only. The Corvette got a Rochester fuel injection unit. The heads had a distinctive stamping mark on them, they looked like a two humps and were called, "Mickey Mouse" or "Camel" heads. They boasted 2.02" intake valves and 1.60" exhaust valves along with 11:1 compression and a nice cam. They were advertised as producing 375 hp. In a Chevy II and later the Nova, there were very few cars that could even touch them, even if they didn't have the fuel injection but only a single carb and were rated at 350hp. Unless you had a Hemi or one of the Ford 427s with medium riser heads, you were toast. Some of those cars were built in Canada as Cheviacs, Pontiac bodies with Chevy engines since the Tonawanda engine plant was/is less than two hours from the Oshawa assembly plant. There weren't many of those Pontiac Acadians (i.e. a Chevy II with Pontiac symbols)with the Corvette engine built. We owned one, for a week, an old mechanic found it for us, but we sold it since Mom and Pop didn't understand and the car was quite old at the time. :crying: :crying:

Mom had a 1965 Impala Sport Coupe with a 327 and a powerglide. She gave it to my idiot uncle and he later sold it for $50. He was supposed to give it to us, the guy he sold it to fixed up the transmission (it's a powerglide, it only has two speeds)and drove the car around for a while. :angry: :angry: :angry: :angry:

The L72 option on the Impala SS gave you the 11:1 compression 427 with 425HP. GM B-body full-size, FTW.

He's old and he's going to burn in HELL for some of the other stuff that he did. His ####### wife was a big part of the problem. He lost his mind and married the village bicycle. It may be petty but I WILL NEVER forgive him.
