A parrot?

Yes, she is a parrot. You name it, she can say it.

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

you're giving the chicken a suppository?

wouldn't it be easier to start with a cleaned chicken ready for cooking?

Good post. Everything you say is true. Yes I admit, when I hear of someone South American marrying, I think hello PR ticket.

Good life here means large or expensive homes and expensive things period. Have you ever been to Canada or Australia? They offer an in-between lifestyle, with very cosmopolitan cities. Both countries have a large number of foreign born citizens, so are very Euro-Asia-centric.

It's a bad assumption to have BY. I think the reason people assume this is because all of the bad stories of people using and abusing citizens for greencards are far more interesting to listen to than the not-so-gossipy real life love stories. There are plenty of them, I can say especially for people I personally know from VJ and also friends and neighbors of mine who fell in love with someone from their country of origin and decided to come to the US.

It really isn't a step up for all. My husband's brother owned his own business in Peru, various textile factories. He does very well, and as a result my husband has always had an upper management position. With his pay, in Peru, I would have my own house, maid and nanny, health insurance and I would not have to work. Here, I work full-time, rent, and have to do all my cooking and cleaning myself too. We live in New York because it's safer for my kids, good schooling is free, and my mom and grandma might just kill me if I take their grandbabies away from them.

So far it's been a struggle. He gives up his weekends and a large chunk of money to go to community college here to learn English, works full time, crazy hours and doesn't get paid AT ALL what he's worth and sometimes it just seems like the better route would be to go back to Peru with the whole family. It really sucks when he tries so hard to communicate in English just to have some jerk give him an attitude or roll his eyes at him because he's got a heavy accent. It sucks that people think he's uneducated or "trash" just because he immigrated here. In fact, it's the complete opposite.

However, he finally just landed a job that is more up his alley, the pay is MUCH MUCH better than what he was making and we've got a little girl on the way. So, we might be hanging out here after all.

Does anyone know of any good, safe, reliable diets out there? Hubby and I are going to go on one. I liked the South Beach diet concept, but not the recipes, when I looked at it a few years ago.

My dear Val, why would you want to lose weight, you look fine to me.

I'm sorry, that's not you, you're better looking than this. :D:D:D:luv:

I know, its fish sticks and hamburgers for the Cinco.

BTW, I love her shoes. Something I would for real wear to mow the lawn in.

Oh Susita, don't remind me of the maid! :crying: Also very common in Brasil, I always had at least one live-in, and I do miss my clothes washed and pressed in my closet, and not having the horrible cook, clean, wash, kitchen routine. I did clean, I took care of my own room, I would cook and wash up a few times as week, but not doing everything every single day. Plus I could get up and leave and my pets and house would be taken care of.

Booyah, yes, upper life in Brazil for me meant living in a huge house where everyone had their own room and private bathroom, an office, big eat in kitchen, formal dining, formal living, TV room, game room, fireplace living room, winter glass porch, summer porch with BBQ, swimming pool, 3 car garage, laundry room outside the house with closets, it's own bathroom, etc, big garden, etc. Now I live in a rental apartment with one bed, one bath, small kitchen and tiny living. But yet, people see my little Brazil flag or my brazilian face and think "tsk tsk, illegal, immigrant, coming to live off US.

So yeah, I have a problem with assumptions and being mistreated or people thinking I should be ok with it 'cus I can prove I'm not illegal. I'm not an inferior immigrant than a canadian or australian one 'cus my country is not as rich as theirs or I'm not as white (plus one side of my family is all blue eyed and blond haired).

something brazilian .... :innocent:

 Today hubby asked me to look something puerto rican for him, as I cook brazillian style every day! He told me "I want sofrito and cillantro!". I usually send him to his mom for puertorican cooking. :P Or stay halfway since at least rice and beans are common to both cultures.

My pollo guisado did turn out exactly like he was craving.
