Aren't the illegals (vs legals) actually in the minority, not the majority? Either way, prejudice is so stupid in this day and age. Well, it was in any day or age, but you know what I mean. People need to grow up and learn the meaning of compassion and fairness.

I dread being sent to Tennessee or Kentucky and places where Luis's cousin has had some pretty nasty encounters. Even working in PR over the phone at a customer service agency I got a lot of ####### from people assuming that 1) I was in US and 2) I was illegal so I heard so many "F...ing illegal go home that's why my service is #######!" when people called with complaints. Yikes!

Whenever I see these things I ask myself WHY WHY WHY did I accept leaving Brasil??? I would have Luis move there if I could do things over again.

I actually have no idea what the ratio of legal hispanics x illegal hispanics is, but since everyone assumes they're all illegal ...

I think so.

At least here in NY, there's WAYYY more legal hispanic people than illegal. There's more Puerto Ricans in NY than there are in Puerto Rico  and they are US citizens to begin with. Plus all the 2nd, 3rd etc generation children of immigrants who are citizens. A lot of my neighbors are from the Dominican Republic and they've all got greencards or they're citizens.

Howdy Laura!

Don't just open your mouth and prove yourself a fool....put it in writing.

It gets harder the more you know. Because the more you find out, the uglier everything seems.

I have never been to Tennessee or Kentucky

A good friend of mine is Puerto Rican and her husband is African American & German. They often mistake him for latino. He's high ranking in the Army. They move all the time. They just left Virginia to move to Alabama. They've lived there before and have had no real problems. They really don't go far from the Army base & my friend talks to mostly Army wives, etc. I think you'll be fine.

Its like that in Texas too... A lot of Hispanic family have been here since way back when Texas was a part of Mexico.. But then every once in a while, you'd come across an ignorant redneck cowboy who'd make racist comments like " go home you illegal".

I was talking to a man at Hunter's a while back that continually runs into this. He was born here, to parents who were here legally. He is an American, yet he runs into a lot of people who assume he is illegal, apparently. That's just wrong.

I don't know how to say this without being offensive but do you honestly feel Brazil offers a better quality of life?

Americans are stuck between a rock and a hard place. On one hand it's not right to profile but on the other hand, you cannot expect them to simply 'take it'. If Australians were abusing the system, I would expect people to be angry at Australians, yes even the legitimate ones. Human nature really. The only difference is that my anger would be directed towards the Australians up to no good, rather than the Americas getting sick of their toes being stepped on. Let's not pretend for a second that any other country, with most not being anywhere near as multicultural as the US, would take it and allow foreigners to bombard their country.

My previous posts sums you up..

Spook the reason you have not be the subject of more attacks is because you have kept everything about yourself secret. Which is funny, because true or not, you like to bring up information about others. This is a visaforum, predominately designed for people going through the visa process. Strangely enough, we neither know what stage you are at, nor know where your spouse is from, nor know where you are from and in actual fact we don't even know if you are still pursuing a visa. For all anyone knows, you could be a lonely old man, with nothing better to do than tossing off over the US on an immigration forum.

Do what you do best spook, respond with some insult. Basically, you do anything to dodge a legitimate question..
