what if you have a GC and a non Canadian passport?

Your GC is all that you should need to get back into the United States, but depending on the arrangement between your country and Canada regarding visas, you may or may not need to provide additional documentation to visit Canada.

Your profile lists your country as Brazil. The Canadian government's web site indicates that a Brazilian citizen wishing to visit for less than six months would need to apply for a Temporary Resident Visa to visit Canada.

Whoops.... glad I kept reading before I posted. Permanent residents of the United States in possession of their green cards do not require visas to visit Canada.

Lipslikesugar- As a US Permanent Resident, you do not need a visa to travel to Canada.

Just bring both your US Green Card, and your foreign (Brazilian?) passport, and you're good to travel!

You need to bring your Green Card to prove residency. You need to bring your foreign Passport, as that is one of the 'acceptable' forms of ID that they need for border crossings, regardless...

Also, your US Permanent Residency status is the main thing that they look at, as that's where you are residing in currently...Therefore as a US permanent resident, you do not need a visa to travel to Canada....(as mentioned before...)

Don't worry, you'll be ok over the border....

Hope this helps. Good luck and enjoy your travels to Canada!
