Someone on VJ once told me the US Constitution is an outdated document written 2 centuries ago by a bunch of irrelevant old geezers. I'm much too senile to remember who it was that said that, but of course it couldn't be the same someone who's now quoting the preamble to said document.....

Nearly missed that, in this example, securing liberty in terms of being able to live free of corporate tyranny, from profit driven insurance companies, and be able to ensure this freedom is accessible by all Americans.

When discussing anything with Libertarians / constitutionalists, one must rely on this document.

Personally, I prefer the first world approach of discussing something in terms of merit and what is in the best interest for the people and the nation; in 2010 and beyond.

Sure, but the discussion must take place within a pre-established framework that defines all stakeholders rights and responsibilities. That framework is the Constitution.

Obama should have had the balls to push for nationalized healthcare. Surely if the Republicans could use hook and crook to do whatever the hell they liked during Bush's first term, the Democrats could have done likewise with this.

I don't think you'd have found much support for full nationalization, even in the Democratic party. My preferred solution has always been single-payer but where the actual providers of care are not government employees. I.E. the Canada model and not the UK model.

Yeah it would have gone down like a sack of $hit, but it at least would show that the guy had balls - and actually wanted to enact something that would radically change the landscape.

Instead he went all Tony Blair.
