Hello everyone,

I was looking for a related topic in the forum, but couldn't really find the right answers to my question...

I have applied for AOS and have already received my EAD Card.

I would now like to apply for a SSN.

I was reading the government website and was a little confused on what documents to bring, will my EAD be enough

since my tourist visa has expired an I am technically "out of status".

There were talk of valid visa or other valid document - will my NOA1 be okay with my alien# ??

thank you for your help!!

I think you need to take with you your EAD, other ID (such as passport with your expired I-94 inside it) and your NOAs/interview notice to help validate yourself just incase. If your EAD is in a different name to your other ID, (like mine is still in my maiden name and my EAD will be in my married name) then bring a copy of your marriage certificate.

I remember seeing something in the social security office the other week, and I think you are fine with your EAD and ID. Your EAD has your alien number written on it and would surpass your expired tourist visa, the same way your GC will your EAD.

Since your application for AOS, you are not longer under requirements for your previous visa, expired or not.

As suggested, take along, EAD, personal ID, marriage certificate, a bill or letter to your address may or may not help depending on where you reside. And of course, bring your passport just in case and any state id if you have any (school/work id's should be acceptable)
