We are flying to Thailand and we plan to get married in Thailand and change the name on her passport to my last name, so when I buy the plane ticket whose name do I use? If I book the flight in her passport name and change it in Thailand can she get back on that original ticket?

Your best idea is to call the airline.

Typically you need the tickets in the same name as the passport, SOMETIMES however showing the marriage licence is enough to show that this is your name now but not all airlines accept that. If they DO, I would get the tickets in your married name, show the marriage licence when you leave, and by then the passport will be in the correct name for the way back.

Since you are already married in the USA, you are considered married in Thailand. I would contact the consulate in NYC about how to change her name on her passport.

NYC Thai Consulate info:

DC Thai Embassy Passport info (in Thai):

LA Consulate passport info (in English):

Trying to change her passport in Thailand may require her to first change her Thai ID, name in Tabian Baan, etc. then register the marriage with the MFA and get 'certification' stamps on various docs (like your USA marriage certificate). It may be substantially easier to make a trip to NYC to get a new passport.

I'm not too sure about that..we still have to do the paperwork in Thailand at the Amphur for it to be offical. We are going to be there 3 weeks so we plan to do it all when we get there. I figure if she uses her passport name for the tickets, we should be able to show the wedding certificate in Thai and english if there are any problems at the airport. Once we get to the US its all about the greencard anyway.

Really? Someone else on here would have to verify that since Rin and I got married in Bangkok. Do you have a link to an official website that says a Thai citizen has to register at the Amphur if you get married overseas before the marriage is official?

To be safe, she is going to change her Thai ID and get all the stamps done, but we will wait to get the passport changed when we come back to the states. Some of this stuff can be fuzzy..and no one can ever give a striaght answer when you call them. Thanks for the info...your right it will be easier to do it here.
